I'm biased, since I like KWSM a lot, so I'll try to be fair.
Nao is a great VA imo, her engrish is cute as fuck.
And as shown with all the voices she did/does for KanColle it's not like the characters she voices can't be popular.
But like I mentioned in that post, with KWSM the faults are emphasized.
Some consider those to be cute, or part of her appeal, but the truth is that it doesn't put her in as good light as Kaede.
For example, the cake thing with Kaede is mentioned, but not played as a fault, she's only seen as sexy or alluring in that adult way. In the case of KWSM, she's played as being too concerned about her age, in turns acts silly because of it, some see it as cute, some may see it as annoying or just gimmicky.
Also, it didn't help that she was turned into a meme early on, people voted but the meme died and she was sort of forgotten afterwards.
Personally, I love her song a lot, but it's fitted to her image of a cake, so it's basically an old pop song, it's not high energy like Nana's, or an epic orchestrated sort of ballad like Kaede's, so I guess it doesn't appeal to everyone the same way. You could easily sample it into an A E S T H E T I C vaporwave song though.

That said, Namco likes her, she's not ranking at all since her debut (which was only top 10), but she still gets tons of love from them. She keeps appearing in albums, she had spots in the anime, she did radios, etc.
And it's not like Nao is unknown or lacks work, but either she has time for KWSM or is cheap enough for Namco to keep favouring KWSM over other cool idols. Thankfully.
