I find it better to find in enjoyment in many things, I like SAO, Monogatari, Shirbako, asterisk wars, etc, no fun in just saying that i cant like certain things for bullshit reasons, i watch 20-30 shows a season and its nice to have such a wide variety of shows.

The problem of SAO is that even though is far from being the worst thing ever, a lot of people honestly think it's the greatest thing ever, maybe that's because it's the first anime they ever watched or before they just watched battle shounen with 200+ episodes and lots of filler.

The plot was bad, but acceptable for a brainless shounen. You don't go watch, say, DBZ looking for a magnum opus, regardless of what /a/ might say about it. You just look for people beating the shit out of each other using seizure inducing powers. Saint Seiya was a product of it's time, the retarded decisions of the heroes, the paper thin excuses of the villains were normal back in the day.You can't judge it with the same standards as today's shounen.

Depressingly watching SAO got me back into anime.

It's still a terribly written anime but I'll say it got me motivated to watch other things.

Besides if SAO was a failure and quietly faded in obscurity people would hate it less. The only reason to care about SAO's non-quality is that it made money.

The greatest casual filter is SAO Abridged, because people who watch that think its a good watch on its own because compared to the original SAO anime, it has "good character development". If someone jumps on the SAO is shit bandwagon and unironically likes the abridged version, they're the bigger casual.

TL;DR - Anyone with any semblence of taste would outright say SAO is shit and leave it at that, those who like it are casuals. However, those who vehemently dislike it but like the abridged version by virtue of the fact that it is slightly better are the bigger casuals.
