I dunno. Probably because it isn't outwardly cute, a battle-school-harem or an action shonen. Its style is also kind of ugly too; people just didn't give it a chance even though it's actually awesome.

When people are too dogmatic like that, they wind up missing many interesting shows just because they're a little different. I fucking love moe shows to death, but also absolutely will go out of my way to catch anything kind of different/off-beat from the usual industry scope, because quite often these are worth it.

Loved it, but I also enjoy the subject matter.

I can't imagine anyone really liking the show all that much if they aren't into music all that much.
