Pretty clear that Croix plan is to use social engineering on Akko and other two girls to wake up the Great Triskelion. The other girl being Diana, of course.

Did people already forget that Diana has touched the shiny rod already? Diana does not have the mental baggage that Croix does. Croix is driven by trying to prrove something to the witch community and herself by being better than chariot and being able to obtain the rod despite not being a talented witch is key to that. Croix will reveal that she always wanted a talented girl like Diana to suffer, anyway. Akko eventually saves and befriends Diana.
