2017 is not over yet, so it is hard to judge. But we are getting a shit ton of sequels this year. Don't know if this is a good thing or not. It just shows the decline of the industry. The best years for anime, are the ones, where the japanese economy was good.

Anime like Lucky Star and Ichigo Mashimaro popularized the female-cast plotless slife-of-life comedy genre. If you watch it now for the first time you will only get a Seinfeld Is Unfunny moment but it was great when it was fresh.
