Explain what? They're just separate stories with similar events in some places and shared characters in some places and similar settings. None of it is the same continuity though. All sorts of things that happened in the game are ignored or changed by the anime. Sandstar didn't even come from a volcano in the game. There were Ceruleans that took on the shapes of giant birds. Lucky Beasts did completely different things. The anime just uses some lore and history from the game that it wants to but is very much its own separate story that doesn't hesitate to ignore or change anything it wants.
