Riko was born a stillborn, later in one of the chapters, ozen sticks some meat into it, the meat starts moving toward the bottom of the abyss, and then dies. Since riko was a stillborn and was stuck in there, the implication is that she will die after a while, and that the power of the box is whats making her go to the bottom of the abyss, not her moms letter.

Man they're pretty far in for only 5-6 volumes, and I doubt the story will end when they reach the bottom but who knows. That "current state" of the Abyss thing probably means there's more too it but who knows.

Last layer will be the final arc 100%. Unless they can break the curse they are stuck there (which might be part of the final arc but it's going to end shortly after ascending either way). Also considering it's been serialized for over 4 years, I don't think just reaching the 6th layer is that fast. If it finishes in 3-5 years it's not that bad. The 6th layer arc we're currently in will probably be at least 10 chapters. For reference, layer 3 was basically glossed over in a single chapter but layer 4 was from chapter 18 to 27 (Nanachi's arc). Chapter 28-38 was layer 5 (Bondrewd's arc). Chapter 39 (latest) is just entering layer 6.
