Hard to tell objectively, personally there's a lot of shit I've watched as a kid that now I think is utter shit.
Like Elfen Lied, or FMA, or Bleach.
If I had to pick one I'd say FMA used to be pretty damn overrated when it was a thing.

Boku no Hero Academia, maybe just because its airing right now. The anime is very slow paced and pretty generic but people still cream their pants over it.

Attack on Titan is also ridiculously overrated, the second season has actually been shit so far as well.


Aside from those obvious ones, Gintama is ridiculously overrated. Maybe 30% of the arcs are amazing, but there are a lot of good shows that aren't full of filler shit. Nothing 400+ episodes long can be "one of the greatest anime ever".

I'd say its just over-analyzed, really. The story plays itself pretty straight.
