Well what else are they going to do after this? Put out their little card game? If the anime is selling remotely as rumored then they will profit off that way more than anything else they can drum up at this moment.

Considering its production budget was a couple dollar menu McDonald's runs and whatever change they managed to fish up between couch cushions, selling 30k+ on a show like this is a fucking colossal haul. If it does 50 or 100 they should pump out this stuff for many years, even if sequels dropped off at half sales each prior season that is probably 3+ seasons worth of solid profit. Considering the infrastructure/staff is now established and the models for many liked/relevant chars already made and can be used endlessly, this show probably costs practically fucking nothing to make compared to hand drawn as it is.

I just watched the ending after avoiding spoilers. GOOD GOD Tatsuki made me go through a roller coaster of emotions from sadness to anger to happiness to melancholy to sadness again to happiness at the last moment.

I admit I believe this series isn't a masterpiece that some here might proclaim but it is so structurally sound and there are no glaring flaws in the journey or how it was presented that I am happy it was so simple and straight forward. It reminds me of the first season of Digimon.

This series made me love anime as a storytelling medium again. No shit rating scale/10 I can't wait for season two.

It's more so that it doesn't have consistent look and animation style. The animation director has made a point of not controlling any of the animators and cuts to make them consistent because he felt the chaotic result of doing that brings a more comedic feel to the show.

What elevates KF for me is that it's pretty nonstandard via incorporating multiple different genre elements. You can call it an adventure but it also contains pure cute stuff as well as HEAPS of subtle and occasionally unsubtle mystery. Very good.


GuP I've seen plenty of times. It makes sense to have the first major iteration of the franchise play it safe, though, to really drive home that it's a sports series, with a weird sport. I still need to read the spinoff manga and watch the movie and stuff to see what else they've done with it.

Well, they did finally figure out the sane way to transport something across water. I'm surprised they didn't just have Serval jump between islands carrying the bus.

Japan's quality in humor is so abysmal that when something decent happens (Nichijou, Danshi Koukousei no nichijou, joshiraku, SZS, Jintai, etc) it becomes an eternal classic that everyone talks about for decades to come, just because they manages the herculean task of having humor that wasn't complete garbage for once.

Anime humor isn't even a matter of taste.
It just lacks any effort and inspiration whatsoever, do a degree where you can see they don't care at all.
They're just trying to sell figures of the heroines and dakis, having actual humor in there would be a waste of resources when you could be animating 23 more minutes of HILARIOUS slapstick comedy (entering a room while the girl is changing, anyone?) or entire arcs of forced drama (MISUNDERSTANDINGS! Because why have an actual plot when you're a fucking hack?)

The ending was pretty good. Tied up all the loose ends like why lava suddenly appeared in the labyrinth, Bossu's shining eyes in the previous episode, Arai's hat and Kaban's birth, and what happened to the friend who got eaten in the first episode.

Kaban turning back into a human made sense since it was previously mentioned that friends who get eaten become the animal they originally were. So a human who was born a human "returns" to being a human. It wasn't a complete asspull, although I was expecting some memory loss as a result of staying inside the Cerulean for too long. But maybe Kaban didn't stay inside long enough to have major damage done to her memory.

Kaban's rescue was a bit cliche with all the animals coming together to save her. It is strange how animals from far away areas like Hippo, Jaguar and Otter manage to make their way to the harbor in that night. It was something I didn't expect, but given the nature of this show and the buildup towards Kaban's rescue, I'm fine with it. It made me really happy to see the Friends come all that way to save their friend.
