Animation and art in general has become much more accessible due to technological advancements. New technologies allow decent looking products to be produced much faster than before, which in turn creates a disconnect between the artists and their work. This can be seen all over the world, specifically in the west as traditional 2D animation has almost been completely replaced by 3D and 2D rigged animation.
This combined with the current state of the animation market doesn't typically allow such large commitments as CardCaptors and instead favors quick productions of popular light novel or manga titles.

Thanking the audience is something both the producer and director would want, and there are very few projects where such a relationship is created between the creators and the viewer.

But no one is saving time. Anime episodes still take 4 months to produce.
What they scrape of through computers in one place they use elsewhere.
Modern anime has a much higher degree of detail for example, and much more animation. The animation may be worse on average, but you get more of it.
