I think the market has just diversified. You have a lot of people making web manga now and unlike in America, that can actually lead somewhere in Japan. Why bust your hump to meet the approval of some uppity editorial know it all at Shueisha when you can hustle on the internet and, if you've got enough moxie, eventually end up with your own TV anime?
