KyoAni's Air was better, but looked like dogshit because they tried to stick to the original artstyle in the VN.

Toei's adaptation looked better but that's about the only thing they had going for it.

The Kyoani TV Series is a horribly paced, horribly executed mess with good animation.

The Toe Film is far better executed with a smaller, tighter script, although the pacing is a bit too fast (condensed to film length). Animation is a bit better than the TV series. Art direction is god tier, one of the most visually stunning anime of the last 15 years.

Think about budget too, current KyoAnus would probably be better for 3 or 4 episodes but the money would run out really fast. But with that same money Toei could spawn 25+ episodes thanks to their chinese drawing slaves, but obviously quality would be shit but.

It's more like a quantity/quality dilema now, and all thinking about the profit margins, because in DBZ case, and probably same as precure/saint seiya/naruto, somehow people will buy their shit.

It's funny that in this image the Kyoani version is obviously worse, because this is how it looked to me when comparing S1 Haruhi with post-K-on S2 Haruhi, getting away from that Key look was an obvious improvement, and yet everyone was complaining about it, not only because it was a deviation from what they're used to, but because of the negative meme connotations that came from looking a little K-on-ish, which it was cool to hate at the time.

Face it, Key shit is fucking hideous looking.
