We did come to a good explanation of how UMA friends could have occurred from the GiTS crossover in the game.

I thought about that before, but the problem with fossilized remains becoming friends based on Mirai's explanation in ep10 is that you must use bio-matters, which excludes a huge amount of fossils that are essentially just cast where the organic bones get replaced with minerals.

Yet you have Tachikoma. Interestingly enough, the beasts who turned ""friends"" are closer to cerulean (Cerval's past self) than friends according to Cerval.
As such, it could well be that memories and conscience play very significant roles in friend formation process.

That was the implication in the game, since the park had a division for research and recovery of extinct species even before the Sandstar stuff (led by Kako).

It's one of the changes in the anime, which makes it more likely that Sandstar bringing back dead things will be relevant. I guess in this case they might just have cheated with Kaban's design (giving her alive eyes) in order to surprise more people with the eventual reveal.

What's the point of theorizing well beyond what the series has given you? At that point it's more fan fiction than anything. They specifically gave us a reason to believe that those creatures don't have to exist, and with that there's no reason to believe that they do.

Is it possible? Sure, if you slap the "fantasy" tag on any series then literally anything is possible. That doesn't mean that's what the creators intended. Every time Boss stopped to play Mirai's recordings, it would project an image of her, along with whatever was around her, off in some direction. The image "moved fast" (because just by Boss turning a bit the projection would jump around), was white and hazy, and varied in size due to the different distances the projection was displayed at. Various Friends had different experiences.

I think one of the times it was getting projected out a window, which is precise and unlikely, but I guess possible.

It's actually kind of weird that he never did any "Keroro becomes a girl" story in the manga itself (well aside from body switching early in the manga) in spite of all his other works about "turn x into a girl" and the Keroro manga also often having stories with other transformations.

Maybe this will change now that they have designs already. There's some set up in the manga right now that seems like it could lead to a Kemono Friends-like arc too, although they could still be just coincidences.
