Nowadays anime lacks adventure. Even if there is adventure, it's hardly to a place that is environmentally different. Kemono friends always brings the viewers to places that are quite different from each other.

The problem with a lot of anime is that pretentious behavior and being so trapped with highschool setting or merely copying other cliche. Slice of life, CGDCT or Isekai, battle shounen or harem have become just one fixed formula.

Serval and Kaban are really refreshing as lead characters, and the friends that they run into are all unique characters. The characters and a very focused plot along with subtle worldbuilding have all made this show into a success that nobody was expecting it to be.

Some parting thought. In ep4, the little blue robot refers to animals and "friends" separately when playing the pre-recorded message, which indicates that humans knew about the hybrid friends characters. So were they invented by humans? Are they an attraction to help park visitors learn more about animals? Are they robots?
Besides that, there is also the fact that the robot only talks to the human character, which is in line with the other hints that this is an amusement park.
