What was with the Yugioh hate last thread, heavily triggered me. All first 3 series are very good, even the filler arcs in 5D's tend to have good elements in them. And 5D's could have no filler and even been better than the first series if it didn't have staff problems. We will never know if Z-ONE was really supposed to be Yuusei and changed at the last minute, but one thing sure is that Carly and in extension Jack and Aki got suddenly no plot because of Carly's seiyuu being in that thighs worshiping sect scandal.

GX's Rei is a good character, it's just that she never appears again until season 3 as she was too young to enter Duel Academy. And then she didn't get much screentime either. She's like Wataru in Aurora Dream. Doesn't mean she's a bad character.

But yeah badmouthing on Yugioh is not tolerated. If Yugioh didn't exist, I bet a lot of your favorite kids shows wouldn't exist. I bet Aikatsu wouldn't even exist either.

DM was pretty damn mediocre, GX while it was great it had a ton of issues besides how it didn't know how to handle it's pretty damn big cast, 5D's was just shit after episode 64, it had some good moments though but it was still shit, funny enough while being super mediocre Zexal was the most consistent YGO show and that made it the best one in the eyes of many in the OCG territories, and let's not talk about Arc-V, which is pretty much Wasted Potential: The Show.

The problem isn't two characters being tightly linked together, it's when their entire character is built upon and revolves around that character, which is what's happened to both Rola and Mahiru. To use your other examples, Yume's character doesn't just revolve around Rola or Hime, and Ako's character doesn't just revolve around Subaru.

I don't have much help left for Rola, but with them taking Yozora out of the picture, I'm really hoping that will lead Mahiru's character in a good direction.

Is it really built on and revolves around one person? Rola's problem was finding herself, and also to stop overthinking and be confident. Her last thoughts were of Yume, but it's more important what she said and how that relates to what she learned. Though there were tough and painful times, together she was always able to smile in the end. She wouldn't be able to do that if Anna hadn't taught her to stop focusing on winning. She wouldn't be able to do that if Lily hadn't taught her to follow her own path. And she wouldn't be able to do that if her mother didn't teach her to trust in her past and all her hard work. Yume didn't teach Rola anything; she was just a presence who gave her the inspiration to work hard. If any person was missing from Rola's life, she wouldn't be where she is today.

I also think it's important that the song she chose was 1, 2, Sing. Remember, that's the song Yume destroyed her aura during. She has sung it once since then on New Year's but using it here shows that she's completely overcome it.

I would say she revolves around another character when she always thinks about Yume and her entire character arc has been about Yume. Sure, she can say she's found herself all she wants, but then we get a scene where Yume gives her a pep talk and all her thoughts go straight to Yume right before her performance. That's why I liked her scene with Anna, because it's one of the few times she wasn't completely focused on Yume, but that's been far and few between whenever she's gotten any focus past the early episodes.
