OK so I'm in akihabara. What's the process for buying hentai doujinshi? Just take the shame on the chin and avoid eye contact?
>>
What shame?
>>
>>154440850
I think you only need to show an ID or something. Not sure since I didn't buy any when I went there.
>>
>>154440899

Nope, just go in a buy shit. Unless you are a manlet that looks like a 12 year old they aren't going to stop you going in.

The problem is getting it home. Just hope customs doesn't search your shit if you buy loli.
>>
Visit Nara, Kyoto, Sapporo, Beppu, Hiroshima, or something spiritual cities, you fucking nigger. Why the fuck are you wasting time doing shit in there?
>>
>>154440953
Just buy it and ship it to your home in america
>>
Just buy shit. The teller will do the usual greeting and proceed with business.
>>
>>154440966
its the moe capital of the world you ding dong
>>
>>154440850
It usually on the lower level of buildings, underground. In the same place they sell yugioh card singles: that's what it was like when I went there.
>>
>>154440850
Go find the "Plum Live Shop" building, and go to I believe the 4th floor. In the very back of the shop they have 100yen doujinshi from old conventions. Sometimes you find some really good shit there.

You pretty much just purchase it. Nobody in there bats an eye, and you get a special bag to conceal your purchase from the outside floor. Very good place, and the staff don't turn around your doujin to see which ones you bought.
>>
>>154440850
Just buy them like any ordinary good. Have some self-confidence, the cashier isn't going to give a shit.

Nigga what? Just walk in, buy your shit, then leave.

>walked into one of the fifty Mulan stores when I was there
>get to one of the higher floors and for some reason Alan Jackson was playing on the speakers
>be Texan
>clerk notices me singing the song and it was his own CD
>talk about anime, merica, and learn where certain manga/doujinshi are sold instead of having to learn by walking to every single one

>>154440899
None needed.
>>
>>154441068
This. You don't apply for a job in a doujinshi store in Akihabara without either not caring, or having an interest in it yourself.
>>
>>154440850
>Just take the shame on the chin and avoid eye contact?

There really isn't any shame. I accidentally walked onto the Yaoi Floor at Tora no Ana in Akiba because I couldn't read moonrunes, and nobody treated me any differently.
>>
>>154440850

Toranoana
Melonbooks

all the stuff you are looking for is at higher floors
>>
The staff at tora and melon are chill as fuck.
>>
>>154441137
>Yaoi Floor at Tora no Ana
Weren't there 2 or 3 floors dedicated to that stuff?

OP should get the American mentality judgemental-ism out of mind.

Japanese staff will not even "small talk" with you. They are there to conduct strictly serious business.
The Japanese staff and cashiers have only one interest in mind... push many unsold inventories out of the store.

oh, and DO NOT TAKE PHOTOS OR VIDEOS inside these stores like what that bitch ass BBC3 host did her 2nd Japan documentary.
>>
>>154440850
how much has the whole trip cost you so far op (including hotel expenses)? need to know around how much i should be saving up for
>>
>>154441377
The first question is where do you live.
>>
I bought a lot of doujinshi when I was there and almost died. Next time I'm just ordering online. Do Japanese jave no shame when buying them?

>>154441331
>DO NOT TAKE PHOTOS OR VIDEOS
This. Nobody wants their photo taken in a porn shop and "I'm a wacky tourist" is no excuse for being a cunt.

Mandrake is your best friend, go figure shopping in Nakano.
>>
>>154440953
>>154441481
They're not going to check you unless you give them reason to you paranoid fucks. It'll just come up as a book on the machine so they won't care.
>>
>>154441377

not him

10 day jpn trip

rountrip plane ticket should be ~$1000 per person, economy
airbnb stay should around $100 per day
at least have ~$1000 pocket money

total should be around $3000
>>
>>154441481

If I wasn't a dirty flip and didn't have a stopover in China, I would've gone on a shopping spree in Melon. China customs don't fuck around.
>>

I always wear a surgical mask and keep my head low, too embarrassed to look the clerk in the face.
>>
>>154441331

>>DO NOT TAKE PHOTOS OR VIDEOS
Really? I took photos in Animate and Gamers and they didn't scold me at all. Then again, it was the "safe" section and not the adult section (which I accidentally stumbled upon but promptly left).
>>
>>154441631

also put another ~$500 down for 7 day Japan Rail Pass - Green Car non-smoke cabin if you wanna get out of Tokyo and experience the best high speed rail system in the world, bar none.

Estimated total budget for 10 day trip to japan + Japan rail pass should be ~$3000

It is also illegal to record people on private property without a written agreement in burgerland which is why tabloids use newfags and interns for the job.
It's probably the same everywhere around the world
>>
>>154441730
>Isn't it also illegal to record people without asking in Japan?
its like that in a lot of places
>>
>>154441763
That video's right about buyfags being better off shopping online these days but as a tourist I found Akihabara to be amusing for sightseeing. At the very least there's more stuff to look at than going to Nakano, but then again I'm not one to buy anime merchandise.
>>
>>154441792

I added ~$1000 for pocket money because I'm sure you're gonna want to splurge all that at Akihabara or doujin at Comiket.

You can further reduce the price of stay in Tokyo if you stay in 24hr net/manga cafe. Just be minimalistic with your baggage.
>>
>>154441763

Not sure what day this was shot, but Akihabara is gaijin central on weekday (Mon-Fri) mornings to afternoon.
>>
>>154440850
are 12?
go get urushihara satoshi kan and to love ru artbooks.

you can go to bookoff, mandarake and k-books for used stuff.
lots of people reading in akiba's bookoff though, so might want to go other area.
>>
$3000 sounds expensive.

I paid for 9 days of my new year/January stay around 1400€ for tickets and hotel which would be ~$1500.

Staying in net cafes suck, don't do it. Out of the handful I stayed in, I could hear sex and/or porn between the open-air cubicles every night. Do capsule hotel or even camp outdoors if you absolutely have to and if you are willing to spend a little more than for a capsule hotel, then go for a hostel with good reviews and isn't owned/run by anyone non-Japanese or is catered to a non-Japanese clientele. I stayed in a hostel with only Koreans and Chinese in it in Osaka and had to leave after the first night.
>>
>>154444297
>I stayed in a hostel with only Koreans and Chinese in it in Osaka and had to leave after the first night.
Well, what happened?
>>
>>154444338
They were rowdy and noisy with all their kids and whatnot and in general were just straight up rude. They treated the place like a dump and clearly didn't care as Japan was "not their country." By far the worst hostel experience I had out of staying in hostels in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto, Osaka, Hakodate, and Sapporo through multiple trips. Luckily now, I have a decent job which lets me travel between my home and Japan so I at least get business hotels now.
>>
>>154441377
Got £1500 travel money
Flight was £350 through a third party site
Hotel came to £400
And the rail pass was £300
So around £2550

Nara's fun. You can watch deer bully middle school girls. If you like, you can get them to bully you, too. Just buy some deer crackers and tease them until they headbutt your crotch. It's great.

Also should go to Uji where there's plenty of yakuza meandering around, along with more great teahouses than you can shake a stick at, and Byoduin Temple, where you can see the inspiration for the visuals in the ending of Kaguya Hime no Monogatari.

>>154445608
>20-something
JK industry doesn't hire old hags. And can gaijin even go into a JK reflexology shop? It's not like I want to get my stinky feet massaged by a 15 year old who will let me pay a few extra thousand yen to smell her hair. I'm just asking for a friend.

Doesn't even need to be a cracker. A deer at my free paper map in Miyajima It was low tide when I went and not high tide until midnight. To this day I'm mad..
>>
>>154445726
Well, I recommend doing some research before attending a shop. You can check for reviews and opinions online and the like.
A few of them are indeed just a facade for more shady/lewd stuff, but those are a minority.

>>154440850

You've likely spoken to a few Japanese who are interested in foreign stuff, and by default, different than most. They also likely have their guard up around you because they don't know you well, and Japanese people are distant compared to others. Try actually living here and making some intimate friends and then let me know what you think. Also if you don't speak moon and they're talking to you in English, nothing you say holds any weight.

>>154446378

I found it embarrassing wandering into most adult sections, but didn't find it embarrassing at all picking up a pile of yaoi. Therefore to avoid embarrassment, buy yaoi. (Disclaimer: may only work when female. I accept no responsibility for your shame).

You probably won't get asked for ID. I got asked for ID exactly once, and that was when I bought a concept art book for an eroge. Nobody selling me doujin gave a fuck.
>>
>>154446460
Akiba is where you go for sheer number of shops, to see the big pretty buildings, and to window shop and make the occasional impulse purchase (or to price out computer parts or pick up things that aren't cheaper online). Nakano is where you go if you want to roll up your sleeves and get elbow deep in hunting down figs, manga and any other weeb shit that you don't feel like fighting all the other tourists for.

Oddly enough, I'm going to both next weekend. Sadly though, a lot of stores in Nakano have been closing shop lately.

It doesn't bother me all that much, but when you live here and sometimes you just want to get shit done or buy something, it's really fucking annoying to have them attempt to explain something in horribly broken English and then continue to speak in broken English even when you start talking Japanese to them. It's cute when kids do it though because they're supposed to practice English for school stuff sometimes in public. I had a girl give me a hand drawn flier about her hometown's local foods and snacks and she was trying to speak in English to me. It calms them down a lot if you start with some Japanese and tell them you'll speak slowly and to feel free to ask you to repeat yourself.

Any third-world bros in the thread? Any success stories in getting a tourism visa to travel to Japan?

I've gone through the Colombia-Japan embassy papers several times but this shit seems impossible. Apparently you need to plan out your entire itinerary, get a first-hand certified personal invitation from a Japanese citizen and a bunch of other shit I can't see myself getting.

I just wanted to go there for like a week, walk around aimlessly, take pictures, buy some porn and eat some Japanese food. Is that too much to ask?

I wish, my Japanese wasn't good enough to get to know locals. Went to Daikoku Futo one Saturday (famous impromptu car meeting spot in Yokohama bay area), met a couple of english speakers who knew where and when a bit of drifting might be going on later. I got to where they said (which was a long ass walk) and got to see a few brief runs. Wasn't much but it was fucking cool.

I didn't get to catch a lift and there's no taxis out late around there so I did a fuckload of walking that night but it was worthwhile.
>>
>>154449456
At least in my country getting a visa to Japan is pretty easy: you don't even have to appear personally at the embassy. Yes you do need to plan your itinerary but if you're booking with an agency, as far as I know, they will take care of that for you. It's harder if you're applying by yourself.

Assholes and fakers exist in every country, no need to make a big deal out of it just because all Japanese are extremely polite in appearance and have a work for it. If you're dumb enough to think the store clerk wants to suck your dick and are disappointed later it's your mistake.

Oh no, the thing is that I see these kinds of people in my day to day life, and I avoid them myself. When you have people you've known for years and who always make time to see you and talk to you and go past normal pleasantries like a real friend does, you realize that while some Japanese people may have a bigger wall up in front of them, that they're still human when you get past it and form a real bond with them. Yeah, there are a lot of really awkward people here who probably have trouble making friends, but I've never had the experience. If anything, it's the opposite for me where my close Japanese friends are a lot kinder to me and happier to spend time with me and talk to me than I though.

I dont see the issue really
Civilized people in every country of the world will put on fake kindness and politeness when dealing with strangers, especially foreign ones
Is this an american thing where they expect everyone to be honestly open and friendly?
I'm from central europe and it seems there's only two modes most people in the world have
>polite and friendly but fake
>honest but rude

I don't understand the Westerners' obsession with calling Asian people 'fakes' when they are just being polite. Have you ever considered that people who are nice will treat even strangers nicely? They won't give you access to their heart, but that doesn't mean their being nice is 'fake'.
>>
>>154452396
I know. My Japanese female labmates were gushing about Paris, and then I showed them the Wikipedia page on it that literally pointed out how adult Japanese females are hit the hardest by it. Their reactions were priceless.
>>
>>154452401
Because West rarely has facade and it's not encouraged to have facade, while in Asia the situation makes them have facade.
>>
>>154452266
Because everyone in Paris is rude and fake? It's okay if you just visit the Louvre, Versailles and the Opera, but it's a terrible place to live in.

>>154452546

>>
>>154452650
Are you rude to strangers for no reason?
>>
>>154452401
I wonder if it's a North American thing, because I've only ever heard that on the internet and never in any conversation with fellow Euros.

>>154452650
Westerners also have a facade, just a different one. And being polite is not the same as being fake, it's just an expected social behavior without real meaning. Just like when saying "goodnight" you're usually not wishing a good night.
>>
It's a good thing westerners wear their hearts on their sleeve to be honest.

You can tell who to avoid because they ARE rude to strangers for no reasons.
>>
>Americans
>honest

They are like the worst offender of acting all friendly but then don't remember your name in the same evening.

Didn't visit Osaka, did visit Kyoto and Nara. There is a lot to see in Kyoto, and I suggest looking up other people's itineraries for ideas of what temples and gardens to visit.

I didn't actually visit Kinkakuji or Kiyomizu-Dera (both of which get crowded - Fushimi Inari was packed, I suspect those two temples would have been around the same), but I still got a good fill of temples and shrines. Many of the ones I visited in Arashiyama were quiet and had a really nice atmosphere - my favourite was probably Jojakkoji Temple.

Number one piece of advice for Nara: don't carry paper. Number two, don't put anything in an open pocket. Deer know what pockets are.

And number one rule for anywhere in Japan: prepare your knees, you are gonna be climbing one hell of a lot of stairs.

>>
>>154457692
It depends on the size of the doll. The bigger ones that are 50cm or above costs a bit but then it depends if they have visible or hidden joints

With the prices of figure scales going up so are the dolls at 1/6 scale sitting at the same price as their figure scale counterparts if not even cheaper

clothing is pretty cheap as well and since you work on a few dolls instead of a lot of figure scales its pretty cheap all in all
>>
>>154459484

>>
>>154459561
They are softer than you think
The larger dolls can be taken apart, usually the head, body and wig and accessories(feet, hands, weapons/items) are separated

Larger scale figures probably has a higher chance of breaking things like their hair
