Never found any of the cast in jap-Super to be grating on the ears. Masako plays Goku very well, as with his offspring. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

The animation is only good when it has to "count", like in your current Saga Vegeta vs. Cabba and Goku vs Hit. Otherwise, it varies from low-budget to bad to God-awful.

The current season has picked up a little bit in terms of quality, but not by that much.

The pacing gets better, but it does have a feeling of compression sometimes; you're not going to get Namek blowing up in 5 minutes for 20 episodes, but a lot of episodes are episodic for the "hype", with revelations and battles looming for the next episode. In that regard, one saga in particular'll probably leave you feeling short changed.

Resurrection of F, on the other hand, was underwhelming. I liked seeing Frieza back in action with his classic voice, but that was it.

I watched the BoG movie, then I watched Super from the day the first episode came out, dropped it at about episode 8, picked it up again near the end of the Frieza saga (bingewatching the episodes I had missed) and continued from there. It felt like watching it out of obligation to my childhood a bit, but it DOES get better. Some minor spoilers.

After the retelling of Resurrection F you get the Universe 6 arc. It's okay. After that the Goku Black arc which is pretty good. now we're on the Universe Survival Arc and it looks like it'll be really awesome. It feels like the entire show up until now was simply build-up to this arc.

As stupid it as it is, Super's movie arcs do in fact have several notable changes worth seeing (gohan getting btfo, return of captain ginyu in an edgelord's body, the super sayin god transformation). Not to mention the fact that the downtime or "filler" episodes in between are the legit best part of the show.

As someone who's only just started Universe 6, does the show ever stop being the Goku/Vegeta Power Hour? Like, does Piccolo EVER become relevant again? Or Gohan?

Not so far. Piccolo has one of the better fights in the tournament, but it's anticlimactically resolved. Gohan recently got a fight that was okay.

We'll see how this multiverse battle royale goes. Hopefully Mr. Green gets some time to shine.

A third character is just as, if not more important than Goku and Vegeta in the arc after Universe 6.

There's some filler episodes and two parters that focus on some of the other characters after that arc, and the current arc looks like it'll provide more focus on a lot more characters, including one that was mostly forgotten.
