Gabriel Dropout's subs remind me a lot of Shakunetsu Takkyuu Musume. Most of the time it was fine, but there was one character who ended all her sentences in a hard desu. Somebody thought it would be a good idea to add the word death and death related puns to every single one of her lines, completely changing the tone of most scenes. She'd say things like "Let's have a good match" and the subs would say "I'm going to beat you to death". It was every bit as embarrassing to read and wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we got the exact same "translator" here.

The problem is it's not a phrase that anyone uses. A simple "Jeez lady, where are you aiming?" would have done just fine.

Desu (です) actually has exactly the same spelling like デス。First one is an statement in the end of the sentence (which is omitted in most cases), second one is a wasei eigo, basically means death.
I'm not defending translation for Shakunetsu (but it was far better than this one for GabuDoro), but in Desu case there were right.it was a wordplay in original too.
If you want complain about something, you need to be sure that you are right.
