Don't bother, it is just one of those edgelord garbage shows like elfen lied, another and narutaru.shock factor for the sake of shock factor, torturing kids and time resets. Also, the second season sucks. There is a magical time traveling loli who helps them defeat the badguys. Also, it does the typical time reset ending where the final loop turns out perfect, nobody dies and the kids defeat a team of armed mercenaries with fucking a-team/home alone tactics. It is total garbage, and you could watch 2 or 3 good anime in the time it takes to finish this shit.

Honestly, this. I did enjoy the first season, edgy isn't bad in a horror series, but it's only enjoyable while it's still mysterious. The second season totally ruined it, there was no point watching a series for the suspense when it was never going to deliver a good explanation for it in the end.

The whole point of the series is that trying to rely only on yourself and not being truthful with the people close to you leads to tragedy. The steam sprites are kind of... off. Don't get me wrong, I'd take them over the originals, but I prefer the PS sprites overall. Some people argue that they're generic, but I think they're also polished enough that it's easy to get immersed because you don't really question them. On a side note I played the game without the voice patch, but maybe I should have.

I played the first half of Onikakushi without the voice patch and didn't find myself getting as sucked into the story as I'd hoped. Mostly because, at times, it was hard to figure out who was talking.
I definitely got more into it after installing the voice patch though.

It's easy to bite in and say the anime sucks outright, but honestly translating about one hundred hours of reading into an anime of so few episodes, they did somewhat decent all things considered. It just doesn't compare of course but they tried at least.
