I do believe that Yuuri is aware of his feelings but at the same time, wasn't really trying to propose to Victor. To him, the rings symbolize a physical connection with each other that will stay with them no matter what happens. If they did separate, at least Yuuri has the ring to remember Victor by.

As an anon in the other thread said, Yuuri's relationship with Victor is pretty multi-faceted. While there is no doubt that they are in love with each other and expressed sexual attraction with each, they also friends with each other and camaraderie as high level athletes in their sport. I understand some anon got pissed with the 'clubmates' comment, but if you see it as one reflection of their relationship, it fits somewhat. I have said in a earlier thread that Yuuri probably didn't think Victor would consider the rings as a romantic gesture and went about it in a way that Yuuri won't be hurt if he was rejected if it was.

Yuuri is more like a person who doesn't want ot get hurt by rejection than a full harem MC. It's not that he is totally oblivious but his anxiety makes him self-centered unintentionally.

To be fair, most of it is trolling and some of it is PTSD of being no homo'd after a shitload of fujobait over the years.

Kubo's laisse-faire approach for the fan decide how to approach the series sounds too close to the no-homoing bullshit of other creators who won't confirm shit out of fear of losing normal-fag fans or attractive a fujo-friendly label.

That doesn't make sense. Think about it. Why would Yuuri follow Victor to Russia after retirement? What he was going to do in a country that he doesn't know how to speak the language and able to find any work to obtain a long term visa? Yuuri was planning to seperate from Victor and that's why he was essentially freaking out to Fairy that Yuuri winning the GPF will lead to Yuuri retiring and the end of the one thing that, in their minds, keeping them together.

It was a common compliant among BaldFat fans that they were tying their relationship way too much into skating. Maybe it would be a plot point in Season 2 hopefully.

So he doesn't sort of face his desires - he vaguely wants to bind Viktor to himself as a lover and a partner, doesn't know how to define or express that but ends up imitating an engagement, because it's somehow closest to what he wants them to be to each other, wants Viktor to wear his ring etc, and because Viktor already had said "it sounds like a proposal" and so on.

I think that if they were officially dating Yuuri had been more aware of how engagement-like his "good luck club rings" were and wouldn't have dared to take such a step.

But at the final scene in St Petersburg, I don't know anymore. Time has passed so maybe they had a chat after the GPF and are actually dating in Russia now.

Regardless, you still didn't answer my question either. Yuuri wasn't going to follow Victor back to Russia for nothing. You are forgetting that he doesn't want to see himsef as a burden to Victor. You think that they would have been happy in that scenario? That Yuuri would make that kind of plunge with nothing to do? Victor did it but he also had a goal in mind to becoming a coach for Yuuri so a lot of the hardship wasn't too bad for him. It wasn't the same scenario for Yuuri.

I never read any of the thread assuming that Yuuri was only going to cut them off professionally. For one, it doesn't make any narrative sense as the series show how interconnected skating was into their relationship. The both of them believe skating is what brought them and keeping them together.

This is the thing with people with anxiety problems, they know on a logical level but their anxiety can convince them to doubt it. Yuuri's anxiety is portray rather well as it will be an ongoing issue with Yuuri and how he deals with things.

Yuuri's feelings are less "I doubt Victor loves me." and much more "Why Victor loves me? He deserves better."

I think Yuuri is pretty selfish in the end but I also think he's too autistic and just plain inexperienced to even make sense of his own feelings. I think he knows he wants to have a "claim" on Victor, but I really don't think he's ever deeply thought about it in a romantic or sexual sense outside of their fagskate realationship. At first it was probably because he has shit self-esteem and thinks he's holding Victor back, but now that they are going to stay together in Russia he really doesn't have a need to think about it. There's no push for him, there's no urgency of "we are going to separate what do i do?!?" and he never had that at the end when he really thought he was going to retire. Kubo even said he selfishly decided he wanted to keep skating in the end and the fact he is willing to put that burden on Victor who will also be competing is very selfish.

Back to the subject though, I think because things are "settled" now as in they aren't going to be separating in the fagskate world, there's no urgency to make a non-professional relationship clear. Unless they say "well behind the scenes they already decided etc etc." but we will have to wait until S2 or further info to see for sure. I think it's clear they don't want to separate, but they haven't clarified anything to each other besides that and someone mentioned before, I don't know if they ever will with a general audience show like this. The farthest they will go is more "obvious but open to interpretation" scenes which honestly just means more of a headache for western fans seeking clear validation.

Episode 4 is more that he finds that "Victor is human like me" than his equal and starts to actually love in with Victor unawares. Episode 5 is not really a straight-up romantic confession, Yuuri admits that he doesn't know what exactly his feeling for Victor was but he knows it's a type of love. Episode 7 with the kiss made him realize that he had romantic feelings for Victor (hence the shock/dazed look after they fall on the ice).

Being someone who primarily ships BikeFairy, my opinion probably isn't relevant, but I think it's kind of unfair to say that the people upset about the interview are being overdramatic or paranoid.

You know it wouldn't be like this if it weren't for the "climate" surrounding gay ships, so to speak. Every fujo knows what it's like to really love a pairing and get called delusional or annoying for it, with no shortage of reminders that the creators probably won't be on their side when it comes to their interpretation.

So along comes something like BaldFat, where for once it seems like the creators are unapologetically on the side of people who ship it, and for the most part, they're true to that. Suddenly it's not really about the ship anymore, it's about finally having that feeling of not being on the inherently "delusional" side of the fence. There's a personal element to it that literally wouldn't be there if not for the people who, for years, have gone out of their way to disparage fujos.

So even if the interview really wasn't that bad from an objective standpoint, I get why people were upset. I get why they felt threatened. It's not just about BaldFat anymore because everybody knows BaldFat loves each other, it's about knowing Kubo isn't laughing all the way to the bank at people who put faith in her after years of being subject to ridicule. I get it.

I want to read every official interview, and I'm not among the ones who complained for the rings thing. Bring it on, real yoifags don't break so easily.
