I never finished Destiny but from what I did play he was the best character in the cast. Young, talented tsundere guy with believable struggles who is capable of acting like an adult when the party is being a bunch of retards.

You mean a Tales that wasn't developed for PS3 first then upscaled and ported to PS4? It'll still look like an early PS3 game covered in gloss and slightly better textures. I loved Berseria and I love Tales in general but they've lagged behind quite a bit since the early/mid 00's.

There's also a Tales game coming to the Nintendo Switch but no one's sure if it's a port or a new game. So we could see Tales return to Nintendo instead of going for the PS4. If that happens PC players such as myself will be assblasted more than the Berubetto guy ITT.

I liked how the manga never pretended she was a relevant character and never used any excuses to neither keep her or let her leave.

The anime is actually really well done. While I didn't dislike Zestiria as a game that much the way the anime plays it is even better.

If I recall, it was just titled "Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World", so my friends mom bought it for him since he was into JRPGs. We marathoned that shit for like two days straight and beat it in one sitting. Loved every moment of it, but didn't know about all the features they had stripped from it so we didn't feel cheated.

It didn't take us long to realize there were some important pieces of the story missing, and a google search lead me to finding out about Symphonia, which it turned out another one of my friends owned. He let me borrow it (since I had a Gamecube at the time), and switched Lloyd completely out of the party first chance I was able to. None of my friends ever understood why I hated Llloyd so much.

Since then I've played just about any Tales game to hit Nintendo or PC. I was never allowed to buy a Playstation as a kid (weird parents, my dad had one but he wouldn't let me touch it) so I missed out on all of those, and nowadays I hold off on buying the system since it just gets a PC port later on anyways.

End result, I can count on one hand how many Tales games I've played, but I'd be down to playing the rest whenever they get released or re-released.

Interesting. You can play older games via emulation if you want to (it's how I played Phantasia, Innocence, and some of Destiny) but not all of them have aged well. You'll be dead before Bamco ports old titles- they didn't even give us the complete version of Vesperia and we never saw Innocence R due to poor PSP sales; back in the day, Destiny had all its skits cut and we'll never see the remake or the official full version. There's no money in it. We're lucky we get current games.

Symphonia was my first because a friend of mine was super into it. We played DotNW recently and were disappointed but it was still a cute nostalgia trip. Wish it had a dual audio option since Emil's English voice was irritating as fuck when he wasn't in Ratatosk mode.

I hope it is. I loved Berseria but I'm pretty sure they need to start fresh to get out of Zesty's shadow. The sooner people can forget about it, the better. "Tales of" took a huge, lasting hit in terms of credibility and popularity thanks to that turd of a game and the PR disaster surrounding it. I don't think it's about Rose so much as it's just shitty writing. It felt like it'd be an important sub-plot that tied into the main narrative and moral questions the game was setting up to ask. ("At what point is it a mercy to kill someone, and should it be done?" being the most prominent one; it has parallels to Rose's shenanigans too.) Hell they might have even had Rose advocate for stabby-stabby but Sorey finds a way to save him by thinking and searching for an answer rather than judging right away. But we'll never know since the game was some sort of tortured labor that got shat out because of deadlines and the need to just get rid of the fucking thing. They could have played it off better but Baba's bullshit with Rose's VA was the spark that lit the powder keg.

Thankfully Baba will never be allowed to do anything important again and we can have better games that still look like amateur attempts from new studios for the previous generation of consoles. I hope everyone moves on sooner rather than later.

Anon, it's a well known fact that Zestiria's rstory re-written and lines re-recorded and altered in order to include Rose, and that Baba insisted that Rose be right about everything. So that moral question didn't exist in that capacity before Rose came into the plot. Remember game Sorey already recognized, the fact that sometimes people couldn't be saved he didn't need Rose to figure that out. Also Lailah already had a bad problem of giving up on people too easily. The reason why deadlines fucked it over is because Rose was forced into the story in the first place. They never had time to look over the change he forced onto them to make sure that they fit.

And before you say Alisha, it's likely that she was never the heroine at all, but was just pushed because they needed a pretty face.

I figured Alisha was there to have a girl to market so insecure guys wouldn't drop the game for being too gay. And I fully believe she could have left on a journey with Sorey and been the main female character. Her skits with the Seraphim were great. The cast had the beginnings of real chemistry before she was dropped for her bullshit AIDS and Rose's special snowflake self.

I know there are a lot of rumours and circumstantial evidence about Rose's situation. And I fully believe that a producer would fuck up a game just to please his dick. But unless someone with authority actually speaks on the subject it's all just speculation and hearsay. And no one ever will because loyalty to your employer is tantamount to what the public wants or needs to know.

Honestly, the game was a mess from a technical perspective too. The camera sucked, the models were cheap and hastily rigged, the ally AI was unacceptably retarded, the item system was a fucking chore to work with, and all the dungeons were boring palette-swapped empty corridors outside of the Trials. The game was fucked more than Rose stealing the show accounted for.

Thing is even when Alisha was interacting with the seraphim she was still pretty boring. And when you take in account what the creators have said about how they made the characters, and their concept for Sorey, it becomes fairly obvious that she couldn't have been planned as Sorey's equal. At best there are hints that she was supposed to be a human party member, and that's literally it. She has no importance beyond that, and her side story doesn't involve Sorey. In other words she's basically another Natalia, she's just a female character not the main one.

As for chemistry with the team, I really didn't see it. The more she interacted with the team, the more obvious it became that she and Sorey really didn't have much in common. At best she would have gotten taken the stick out of her ass when interacting with the seraphim, but that's it. Not that Rose was any better, but Alisha never had any chemistry with the group, her interactions with them are very one note, and it's just the same joke repeated over and over again.

On the technical end, the developers wanted to fix the problems, but Baba, wanted to keep them, because he thought that it was fine.

She hardly had a chance to get to know them before she was shafted. The best skits are usually in the middle or the end of the game; early on you're just getting introduced to them and getting a feel for who they are. All the characters were pretty one-note at that point. Her story didn't have to be deeply meaningful to Sorey's journey- she could have gone with him for her own reasons (I want to find my own strength, I want to become a knight worthy of the title, etc.). It'd be easy to have the evil politicians exile her, forcing her to go around with him even- they want her dead or gone, whatever's easiest. She didn't have a chance to grow as a character before she was put aside for Rose either. It was very early in the game. And we all know how wonderful the character growth and progression was after that point in the story. Shit writing due to last-minute changes or constant revision because they can't find something that works? Who knows?

Do you have a source for the bit about the devs wanting to fix stuff? I don't doubt you but I'm interested in reading more about it. I like reading developer insights about bad games and why they happen.

I'm not just talking about their game skits I'm also talking about their interaction in the drama CD and the DLC skits (which tend to be better than the game skits), and no, it doesn't get any better. Alisha genuinely doesn't have any chemistry with the group, and her jokes repeat even in the female only drama CDs.

In order for her to be the main heroine, her story has to be meaningful to Sorey's journey, that's why a main heroine is the main heroine, because her story is important to the MAIN plot it helps move it along and is meaningful to the main narrative. Alisha's story is none of that. Her story is frankly skippable and not at all necessary for understanding the world or other characters. And that's the problem, she's not important to anyone, I know I said that she was like Natalia, but really she's more like Mieu in terms of importance, because even Natalia's story helped moved the narrative and helped to provide insight into Kimlasca. Sorey would have found out Hyland even if Alisha wasn't there. She was basically just a tag-a-long, there for the sole purpose of looking cute. Besides that I think that the anime more than proves that Alisha really is pointless and irrelevant.

Could they have kept her in the story, yes, but not without first making her drag her feet with the moralfaggotry not realizing what actually needed to be done in order to achieve peace.

S1 was alright up until the last two episodes. Before that it did a good job of fleshing out Alisha, the world itself, and Sorey's role. Rose was also less obnoxious. But after that it just went to shit with anime original stuff. We haven't seen Kittybeard at all since the end of S1 and we're halfway through S2. Been caught up in Rose's bullshit for the entire time until the latest ep. Now they're going back to deal with Hyland's problems and Sorey is no closer to being a good MC or finding out how to deal with Heldalf. He's just a moralfag and the Seraphim dutifully follow him everywhere like color-coded tools. It's been all about showing off Rose and Alisha so far. It has different problems than the game but they're honestly just as bad. The world is much smaller and the stakes don't seem very high. At least Rose admits she was doing wrong in the anime though.

One of the few things I liked about Zestiria was that, Lailah made clear Sorey wasn't an almighty hero capable of saving everyone who crossed his path and that he should focus solely on his goal to beat the Lord of Calamity as shepherd, unlike in other Tale games where the protagonists would go ful Goku mode and save all the people, I would've loved to see Sorey's character development better fleshed out in the anime.
