Anyone have the Astronauts in Trouble font?

When resizing images I use bicubic, which seemed to give the best results with screen tones, but it almost always generates a line of pixels right around the edge of the pages with half opacity.

When you see the resulting page against a white background, it will always have a gray line which is very noticeable. Is there any way to get around this other than manually going through the edges after resizing?

Topaz Denoise, but don't overdo it. You can also use surface blur.

If it's a colored page with lots of plain colors, Topaz Clean on flat style at lightest settings sometimes works, but you have to be careful about it creating a shadow when different colors meet.

Pure white is 255/255/255 and pure black is 0/0/0.

Probably not noticeable if the difference's only 1, but it might be if you put it against a pure white or pure black background, or if you're using pure white to remove the text.

I have a question it seems whenever I post something people tell me I should be uploading in a higher resolution. For the most part what I see is people would upload things 1200 x 1800, so I would do that too. For the most part I just set those numbers in my resizer program and let it run on the highest quality. Is there some step I am missing that is messing with my resolution.

You should get an idea about it sometime. Your original image is not a grayscale file which unnecessarily increases its size. You can open your file in gimp, use the Posterize dialog to reduce the number of colors. 24 seems ok here. Then set the image mode to "Indexed" (let it generate an optimum palette), then save as png. It goes down to about 650 KiB. But pay attention to the top left of the third panel where the posterization amplified some non-white pixels, which should've had been cleaned away.

The weird vertical lines in the tones seems like something you could fix, unless it's in the original. Leveling and resizing seems to exacerbate any imperfections in the tones.

Personally I think the 'scan hueg and level the tones' approach leads to kind of a heavy look. I scan at 300-400 dpi and do more manual cleaning. But that's just my aesthetic opinion.
