For the dragons the fighting teaches individual strength and power which is good as they are few in numbers. But it has the side effect of teaching that might makes right, which can be seen in most of the dragons interactions with humans.

Dodgeball on the other hand is a team game that teaches the humans to strive to be on the winning team and to work together, which is good because of our superior numbers but weak physical strength compared to dragons and tigers and bears oh my. the downside of this is it often teaches humans to gang up on the weaker members, something that wouldn't work for the dragons as they don't have enough of them to intentionally cut one from the herd unless something drastic happens.
