What kind of friend are you? Are you perhaps a friend who's good for nothing?
>>153291553
I'm extremely good at wasting time.
What does it say?
>>153291744
Welp, that's cute.
As much as I also want to have a Kemono Friends thread all week, it's better if this is the last.
Look at the thread right now, it's an empty image dump, we've discussed everything we could this week.
What's the deal with this series? Is it's "massive popularity" just an elaborate 2ch troll?
I can already see your strong points.
>>153292546
It happens to be a good anime with a refreshing premise. Give it a try.
>>153292546
Some people will accept all manner of waste.
>>153292546
It's cute and sweet and fun and comfy. And then it adds a little something extra with mystery. Give it a try, grandpa.
>>153292546
It's like a nostalgic educational program for kids that comes on late at night complete with all the fun an adult could poke at it.
Mediocre, but with charm.
>>153292546
Fun things are fun.
>>153292546
>massive popularity
It's literally just one Friend that is good at faking popularity.
>>153293356
About time someone acknowledged all the hard work I have been putting in.
>>153293732
I appreciate your efforts, Friend.
>>153293801
I'm not your Friend, though.
>>153292546
It has the best 'world building' of any series this year. The characters are cute as fuck and the ameteurish voice acting is addicting. I think a lot of Nips are digging it because Japari Park is a happy fantasy escape similar to Gensokyo.fuck i want to live in Japari Park so bad ;_;
>>153293866

I wouldn't say it has a great world building even if the world it depicts sure is nice and intriguing.
Then if you compare it to the other anime from this season, there isn't that much competition in that department but I'd say Acca 13 does it better.
>>153294465
Yeah, I guess that was hyperbole and honestly I don't know the exact definition of world building, but its amazing how they took a concept so simple and turned into something interesting.
The world sort of reminds me of the WoW horde areas except all the enemies and monsters are cute girls who want to be friends.
Prairie dog a sloot.
>two pairs of ears
>>153294692
But it's just a greeting in America.
>>153294810
>being a two-eared freak
>>153294465
ACCA's world building really isn't particularly good just because there's a lot of it. Especially with all the "As you know," exposition.
>>153295167
Stil better than Kemono Friends. But I agree that Acca's world building isn't anything special either.
>>153295250
Yeah, fair enough. Although I'd probably deduct ACCA points because it seems to be trying so hard, whereas Kemono Friends is keeping things simple but making it look effortless. At least ACCA has bags of style.
>>153295331
One of Kemono friends great strengths is that the director seems to be aware of what is possible in the format they use and makes the best of it rather than trying too hard and failing.
Well decided to check this out after seeing numerous threads about a show, ended up watching it all and still wanting more.
Thanks /a/!
sugo-i
>>153295331
The thing is that Kemono friends doesn't dump all the world building at you, they gave us small hints sporadically, the longest ones came from Serval, Hippo, Boss, Tsuchinoko and well that's pretty much it, the rest where up to the viewer with stuff like the broken bridge, the lava and other small lines the other characters made.
It's so small and well integrated it gets mixed in the fun adventure, it might not be extensive world building, but it is done nicely.
>>153291553
I think they might be more than friends.
>>153295331
I think Kemono Friends world building seems effortless, because it in fact doesn't make efforts. It's minimalist and the viewers are tempted to to fill the gap by themselves. For example we try to deduce the size of the world with shitty-looking maps with no scale, to find a logical explanation to the current state of the park or to where the fuck do the Japari Buns come from.
The world of Kemono Friends doesn't contains obvious contradictions and doesn't make you go "Shit, that doesn't make any sense!", because the information that would provoke this sort of thoughts isn't there in the place.
Note that I'm not saying it's a bad thing and I agree what those two are saying >>153295541 >>153296338
Acca on the other is at least trying, even if with every episode the bird country seems to make less and less sense and to be more out of a fairy tale than a history book.
I think that any real world is definitely more complex than anything an author can come up with, and giving a lot of information is a good way to make a world seems more believable even if it's not enough by itself.
These doubled in price again.
They are just those 2" mini-figures that typically come with magazines or from 300 yen machines.
Fuck that pink panther is adorable.
I have a question. How is kemono girls anime being perceived by the Japanese mass? What is the sales expectancy and other related reactions?
I think kemono girls is an exceptional anime and deserves more attention.
>>153296876
>sub 10k Yen
And now it's only 5 in stock.
>>153297158
Basically what happened to the talking ponies show over here, just in smaller scale and smaller shock value.
>>153296451
You said it yourself, ACCA tries but if you stop and think on the information given it stops making sense in the small scale, I'm not going to ditch their efforts but I like the presentation that Kemono Friends is giving us, they gave us a world and explore it bit by bit without going in an extensive info dump other than the recorded explanations.
I appreciate both kind of world building, but in this season KF is handling it better for its type of show.
>>153297158
>mobile game was a bust and died
>anime is advertising for something that's not even online anymore
>gains a bunch of fringe popularity out of the blue but will likely fade with the last episode, sales will probably be a flop
Everything about this situation seems like a tragic anomaly.
>>153297189

>>153297599
>sales will probably be a flop
Amazon and Rakuten literally sold out of pre-ordes, and BD/DVD for the next 5 volume are all trending as hot items.
People are already selling their preorder at double the price.
>>153291553
Rather than making a new mobage, kemono would be really good fit for a platform/puzzle game.
Since all the friends have different abilities, it'd be similar to Battle for Bikini bottom, where you have to switch between characters to solve different puzzles.
>>153297715
Mother of God.
>>153297158
>>153297231
Japanese have been liking little girls show for decades, and CGDCT has been a genre of anime for a good 10 years now. They also invented the word iyashikei.
I don't think a show that holds many similarities with those and could even be considered iyashikei being succesful is anything extraordinary. What's exceptionnal is that Kemono Friends is a cheap 3D anime part of a franchise of which the main product is a dead mobage. It's a total dark-horse and a surprise for everyone, that probably creates some sort of fascination and curiosity which compels people to give it a try.
>>153297781
It was the #1 selling book in Japan (not #1 selling anime, but #1 selling book) on amazon this week until they pulled it because the supplier could not meet the demand.

>>153297883
That is the official guidebook but it also includes episode 1 & 2.
>>153297715

>>153297883
It's presented as an "official guide book" with a bonus BD. Obviously people are now buying it mainly for the BD.
>>153297957
>>153297781
There's nothing weird about a good anime selling well.
>>153297824
Cute girls that are also cute animals. Or rather, animals that are also cute girls doing cute things.

>>153298001
I'm not saying that in a bad way. I'm impressed that there is demand yet no supply for this.
I mean I understand the manufacturer being unable to supply the immediate demand but do we have news of a reprint?
Wow I didn't know Nexon made kemono friends mobile game
Myamyamyamyamya~
>>153297957
>What the hell is going on?
This is a mild version of the bronie phenomenon. Something that adult men with disposable income were not expected to like suddenly attracted thousands of men with disposable income.
It caught the industry off guard and there is now a feeding frenzy going on as people fight over what little merchandise exists for this series. As things sell out it becomes more newsworthy and more people hear about it.
>>153297999
\Would headpat either. And probably get horribly
mauled in the process.
>>153298130
>Something that adult men with disposable income were not expected to like
Except it's not. How many times do we need to say this? Kemono Friends is a late-night show, it was aimed at Otaku from the beginning. They just didn't expect it to be so succesful.
>>153298130
Except Kemono Friends was aimed at adults.
>>153298340
It doesn't go full-on otaku pandering which confuses a lot of people
There's no self-insert male
There's no otaku who points out how much things are like a video game / light novel
There are no out of place fan service scenes
There are no still images of characters getting covered in some kind of sticky white goop.
With the exception of the sexy animal outfits, kemono is completely child friendly
>>153298480
child-friendly =/= aimed at children
It's the same kind of people that leaks from other boards and thinks K-on! is a show for little girls.
>>153298574
I'm not saying that its aimed for children, I'm just saying that its easy to think it is.
>>153298480
I don't think you've watched enough anime.
Ppplease translate. I only understand half of it.
>Where much is known of the larger cats of the Serengeti, the Serval has remained somewhat of a mystery. Yet, it is a beautiful animal, possessing the regal quality of the cats of ancient Egypt. The Serval also has a distinct character and filmmaker, Owen Newman, was astounded by its habits and abilities. It turns out to be a plucky little cat, driving off jackals after a kill and taking on storks, the biggest birds on the plains. Still, life is tough for these apparently delicate animals and this film proves that they are every bit as charming as their bigger relatives.

I got it, it wasn't directed at you. I just wanted to add something to your post.
I sure hope they put Ibis song on the OST.
>>153298480
There's other ways to pander to otaku.
Just adding to the discussion. I'm South Korean and I'm interested in Asian economy in general.
>Korea made an animation "pororo" which started gaining excessive amount of attention from 2008
>Basically a story about animals who can talk and all that made in shitty CG
>Makes 600~750 million USD in sales yearly more than half of that comes from foreign market
>About 13 million USD comes from royalty, and 600 million USD comes from goods sales.
>Brand value estimated a little over 720 million USD
It's amazing considering that it was made in shit country like Korea. The reason it became famous is because the company focused its product advertisement and licensing abroad.
I think Kemono friends falls no short to what pororo showed in quality, so I believe there's no reason for the kemono friends to not shine.
>>153298480

Here's the thing. This show had almost no publicity at all and the staff was aware it was going to flop hard, hence the general confusion about his sudden success. It's also starting to spread here in the west, even if just around sakugafags and other circlejerkers of their kind.
>>153299267

>>153299267
>around sakugafags
Aren't they just parroting the japanese social networks because they're attention whore?
>>153299356
I know little about them but from what I've gathered it seems so-called "sakufags" are essentially wannabe e-celeb that thinks they're some sort of elite otaku.

>>153299267
>It's also starting to spread here in the west, even if just around sakugafags and other circlejerkers of their kind.
So, the true niwakas are pretending they like the show just because it's getting more and more popular on Japan, despite them hating everything to do with it and its animation.
>>153298659
You can tell he hasn't when he associate this with mlp getting popular as if Japan hasn't like animal girls for decades if not centuries.
>>153298861
Except Kemono friends airs at like 1:40am and no kid knows about it.
I assume Pororo is mostly popular because of its kid friendly adventure plot and cute mascots.
Kemono Friends would be similar but it's popular with adults.
>>153299222
They mentioned that they mate for life.
People actually undersell this show's writing, it's not that simple to have different yet cohesive stories that fit neatly into one episode while following a clear and concise goal. As far as tight writing goes, this show is one the best around, there is no rushed situation, no wasted time.
Shhh! It's cute girl season.

Any other friend who has read Doubutsu no Kuni?
This series reminds me quite a bit of it. The general setting, sort of untouched park world, where humans are an absolute rarity and a mystery to the other animals. And the vast featuring of captivating wild animal life.
Quite uncanny.

Considering that the mobile game flunked so hard and so fast that it got shut down whilst the anime was in planning stages, and that the manga wasn't able to last long enough to benefit from the anime's popularity, I doubt we'll see anything other than figures after the show ends. That is unless they can quickly and cheaply shit out one more season whilst it's still popular.
>>153306573
yeah, thats what I was worried about.
I really doubt that the Japanese are flexible enough to make a profit off of this. Unfortunately they'll write the popularity off as a fluke and let the whole thing sink

Waiting for the inevitable for sick yuri bestiality guro fetish coming out of this. I like this show.
>>153310006
>it doesn't have spectacular writing
It does. The average anime would be doing pages of useless exposition with 0 subtlety.
>>153310006
The writing is one of the better ones this season, the plot/world is interesting and episodes are varied and creative.
>>153310166
Pretty much, the lack of exposition is what makes it so great.
>>153308253
I remember when it was first picked up the threads were pretty empty, I'm not sure if it was a lack of love for the author or if people were still too wary of animal characters (course we didn't know what direction it'd go from there). I think it picked up recognition when more humans showed up, but I can't say I've seen anyone post it in eons.
I've put in reserves on the first six volumes at the library. Wonder if I'll tear up the second time around. If Kemono Friends melts your brain into a happy state, then all I remember of Doubutsu no Kuni is melting my brain into a sense of teary camaraderie.

I wasn't around when it was being published. Not sure I'd be overly hooked when it was being serialized either, but it's one hell of a story to read through in one go like I did. I picked it up from OPT's here when it was already finished, and the consensus seemed to be quite positive.
And yeah, despite the many similarities in setting and some of the mystery atmosphere, the feelings evoked by each series can be quite different. There's plenty of melting, light hearted moments too (specially in the beginning and towards the middle of it) but also a lot of dramatic "hit you in the feels" moments. Many manly tears were probably shed while reading the story (specially towards the end).
Just remembered other two plot elements that seem to resemble some of Kemono Friends's own(something close to the "library" and the manjus associated with the park).
I'm starting to think the production of this anime or franchise might have had some of DnK in mind when designing some of their world building elements.

Like, I'd willingly give up a varied diet to live off of Japari buns and just have platonic adventures every day with cute kemonomimi girls who probably don't even have a heat season.
Normally SoL doesn't do that.
I thought I had outgrown this sort of escapism urge, nigga.
Is the mobage this show spawned from still running at all? Or is it completely dead/dismantled and this show is a remnant of brave planning that couldn't be cancelled due to investment costs?
>>153313324
ep5, where Bag-kun resolves Beaver's anxiety and Prairie Dog's lack of architectural skill through simple abstract thought, resulting in a symbiotic relationship between the two that flourishes.
waai
>>153313837
The mobage was basically just a generic gatcha fighter, as far as I can tell.
I would love to play a 3d exploration game though. Imagine just wandering through the whole huge park and all the different lush environments, meeting friends finding little abandoned buildings and stuff, and sometimes there's little puzzles you have to solve like getting friends to help you rebuild a bridge so you can go to a new area and meet more friends;_;
>>153313837
It's a completely harmless environment where there are monsters but no one really gives a fuck and everyone has a completely set identity from birth. There is no competition and the only struggle is to collect japari buns distributed mysteriously throughout the park and live every day in a haze of predetermined existence.
It's a paradise
>>153309629
>People here are forcing themselves
This meme is delightful
>>153314010
god, that would be so awesome!
Open World Japari Park where you can meet Friends and resolve quests together.
Like a jrpg with cute friends and maximum comfy factor.
Hope that wouldn't be a crappy korean pay-to-win mmo.
And they need to release it on steam!
>>153314034
So, economy and failing infrastructures are their actual adversity?
Is there any animal that can resist the power of the Human Headpats?
>>153313837
The whole show has this very "welcoming" feel. I mean, the OP is literally inviting you to Japari Park, there's even a line about how the Friends are always waiting for you with a smile. There's also Serval-chan, who is basically an angel who seems accepting of everyone. Well, that's probably true of all Friends, but she's the first one Bag-chan encounters and is the one who essentially "welcomes" her into Japari Park. Because of this, also probably accompanied by her somewhat mesmerizing voice and phrases, is why the Japanese have latched onto her in particular to take this role. I think this can also explain a good chunk of the reason it's so popular with the Japanese, while there are many SoL with cute girls out there, as you mentioned they don't quite give off this same feel. Other shows don't really make it seem like the viewer themselves is welcome, or even being invited into the show's world in the way that Kemono Friends does. Also yes, the game is completely dead, they shut down the servers and mobage require an internet connection.
>>153313997
Doujins when?
>>153313997
Futaba sure loves arguing about the way the 'right' way to translate shit into English, huh
>>153314212
It was foreshadowed but we haven't seen anything yet. Beaver said she gave Professor a house and a month supply of japari buns, so they must have to put in some effort to collect them.
Perhaps it's like a prison where you only get a certain amount of japari bun a day and the rest must be friendly bargained for.
>>153314248
NOW how will I play with cute kemo-mimi Friends?
Real animals poop and bite.
>This show is the most popular show right now in Japan
>Pixiv loves it
>Twitter is overflowing with images and mentions
How can a show rendered on a Playstation 1 become such a phenomenon overnight? What drives a show popularity in Japan?
It's a mystery.
>>153314248
I think it's Bag-chan. They did an interesting trick with her character in that the audience knows she's human but she doesn't. In ep1 she spends most of her screentime comparing herself to Serval, when the audience automatically assumes humans are the superior race they know full well that animals are more suited to the wild.
Thus, the otaku mindset of being worthless is subverted into the story. We are all Bag-chan.
>>153314294
The future of automation. How poignant.
>>153294596
>The world sort of reminds me of the WoW horde areas except all the enemies and monsters are cute girls who want to be friends.
I would still be playing WoW today if this were the premise.
>>153314414
That's a good point. Bag-chan makes for a good MC because she's fairly easy for the audience to self insert into, while still having character and being very cute herself.
>>153314414
>the audience knows she's human
This is a friend that jumps to conclusions!
I can't wait till they make it to the library so we can find out what type of animal bag is.

Jaguar seems to spend her entire day swimming and there was no exchange of japari buns for her service, otherwise, how could Otter afford to ride her water taxi for fun twice a day?
They don't even take japari buns as payment for their services. No economy is needed because all are willing to contribute when necessary out of desire to be of use to each other.
Is bag a boy or a girl?
>>153314700
There's a reason why they're Kemono Friends and not Kemono Bullies
>>153314248
One of the things I really love though is the contrast that's present in the world, there's a certain bittersweetness to it, with that "world-after-Man" feel. It's big and mysterious and lonely at first, until you look close and realize there are plenty of friends, you just have to meet them (>really makes you think).
Serval climbing the mountain with no one to help her if she falls, Ibis dimly aware she was once a different form of life, Alpaca sitting alone at that cafe, just wishing for a customer so she can show off the one skill she learned, for a length of time that feels like it could stretch back into the misty primordial past of these friendly creatures' awareness. It's a cute and simple show where you know nothing really bad or mindblowing is likely to happen, but there's a kind of subtle, fragile sense of existentialism to it all that's really evocative.
>>153314954

I NEED this in my life. Steve Irwin is such a treasure seeing him with the Halo brought not only a good laugh but fond memories of his show.

Yes. It's about grown adults becoming interested in what is little kids stuff, like the whole My Little Pony-thing where adult fans started calling themselves bronies.
Not that this applies to kemono friends, which was targeted towards adults from the get-go.
But many westerners don't know that and are fooled by the artstyle into believing that it's for little kids, not even bothering to read about when the anime airs in Japan at all.
And even then, it's just a fad, which will be replaced by the next cute hit show of the season.

It doesn't seem to be anything special.
>Yamata no Orochi
>I am Yamata no Orochi... The snake god with eight heads and eight tails. In the old times I went through a painful experience due to sake, but that's that. Even now I still love sake!
>Tsuchinoko
>Even so, I can't let do whatever you want in my precious hive. Something like instantly coming up with sake isn't possible
>Skyfish
>...! ...!
>Park Guide (Happy)
>Ya-Yamata no Orochi...?! So, right now, in this cave, there's Yamata no Orochi, Skyfish and Tsuchinoko all existing together?!
>>153322159
I wouldn't be worried about westerners hoping on this particular bandwagon, western plebs don't get it.

Beaver-dono and Praire dog perfectly describe the 5 levels of reading this anime has.
>little girl anime
They are good friends, sugoi
>big friend anime
They are lesbians, sugoi
>post apocalyptic anime
Genetically modified animals start to show the desire to form societies and buildings closer to human ones than animal ones, sugoi
>anarchist utopia
The girls help each other, each contributing has much and how she can, there is no money and everything is done out of care for each other, sugoi
>journey of the human soul
Beaver is the mind who wants to reach the sky, Prairie dog is the body who wants to burrow and hide. With the help of the soul (Bag-chan), they work for the harmony, with the mind leading the body, sugoi

The show is a literal meme. I'm not saying that as a shitpost/joke, it's literally a meme in Japan. I expect it to sooner or later die down as a flash-in-the-pan, considering
a.) it won't stand the test of time once people get off their hype trains and realize it still is the painfully slow, cheesy show that they originally saw it as for eps 1/2
b.) its intended direction to be a mobage ad is totally nulled, unless something odd happens the buck stops here with this show
c.) other viral trends like hestia's boob string all long petered out and the show has no real solid reason to be this popular considering its production and face-value content - horrible production, crappy seiyuu etc
Amount of art this show gets really pleases me.

In the game, the park was closed to visitors and apparently was in a large island, so no one ever left or entered during the story, aside from the protagonist who just appears out of nowhere.
In the Keroro tie in event though, one of the Keroro characters who's a mad scientist says that if they left the park and distanced themselves from Sandstar they'd go back to their original forms, although that's never actually shown in-game.
>>153322229
It's still has more meat to it than other fads.
Boob ribbon was literally that, a ribbon, here we have 80 characters to fag it up, it could become next 2hu and botes for all we know.

>b.) its intended direction to be a mobage ad is totally nulled, unless something odd happens the buck stops here with this show
I actually wonder if they might be planning some larger Keroro x Kemono Friends crossover. Originally, after the event was over, like in most mobile titles, the collaboration characters were pretty much excluded from marketing and promo images alongside standard characters, but now suddenly the Keroro girls are included near the center of a large poster image and it's also announced they'll be part of the Kemono Friends Chaos TCG cards. Just seems kind of weird.
>>153322661
Zyuohger was pretty average. Try the upcoming Kyuranger, which seems to be changing the formula a lot - (Villains conquered the entire universe, heroes are hopping from planet to planet rather than defending Earth, 9 Rangers from the beginning)
>>153322714
Oh you're right he did do some SB69 fanart.

Ankh should have sung a song if he just wanted some friends.
I remember how I started liking this show early on, and felt sorry for the creators. They all must have known what an ill-fated project this was, yet they kept trying hard. And we commented how faulty the rendering was with all its clipping and aliasing, and how the voice acting was shit.
And now it's a success. What feeling of relief and surprise that must be for everyone involved.

That's really catchy. If there's one thing that I have to say that hooked me to show from the start it has to be that OP. Hearing it in the radio show was one of the things I look forward to when listening to the show. I didn't even know there was going to be an anime for it and was surprised to find that it was going to show up this season.
