It's going to be non-stop fighting for God knows how many episodes. Toei can't handle that kind of schedule, regardless of Shueisha's quality control. The Black arc only looked decent because there were a lot of downtime episodes with not much fighting involved.

I think zenkai boosts existed for two reasons: first, the Namek arc took place on a limited time scale so it was a quick excuse for Goku and Vegeta to get stronger as needed. Second, Saiyans clearly relied on it too much as they eventually meet their matches and died. Goku trains and becomes far stronger than only relying on zenkai could ever provide a Saiyan.

Transformations are a staple to the series and Gohan felt a bit lack luster when Mystic stripped him of any transformations.

That minion Gohan one-shotted that no sold Piccolo's full power was supposedly as strong as Gohan in his prime if what the characters were saying is true.

Gohan was so used to Mystic that he inadvertantly combined the two powers and his body couldn't handle it.

Its that exact asspull that Toriyana likely will use to give Gohan a power boost. At the very least, a theoretical "MSSJ" would be on par with SSB Vegeta given Gohan was able to trade blows with post-Black SSJ Goku.
