I watch it only because I'm a sucker for anime involving musicians, although it seems like it's going to completely turn into romantic drama bullshit. I guess it started that way but for some reason I was hoping for more focus on the band aspect.

The romantic side is how the author does character development. Their previous work was a slice of life all about romance. There are ups and downs with the romance and the band. But the band overall later is the big aspect of the manga.
