I thought we had our last thread for at least a week guys.

But since we've got it going on anyways, here's this nice bit from the last episode.

This totally flew under my radar when I saw that the first time.
Just look how cool Yayaka was, eve in the end she was a good bro.
Cheering up to the girls from the bleachers, such a good loser.
And just a few a while ago she was jealeous of them, she was fighting them. But Yayaka was so mature and cool she got over it quickly, she accepted her place as just a childhood friend/third wheel/support even if all she could do was cheer them on.

That's a real friend, the sort that isn't selfish or spiteful, the sort that will stick around for you until the end.
It's one of the reasons I like her so much.

i dont know if people talk about this kind of stuff, but i really want to. i personally though flip flappers wasn't the best thing since sliced bread. i did enjoy most of it. however, one thing i can't just overlook is how amazing the voice acting is. it's literally flawless and so much more personal compared to anything in the past past few years. granted, although some of the dialogue is dumb and/or generic , the VAs did exceptional jobs delivering them.

Agreed, maybe they had very good voice direction staff or something, they all did such a consistently good job, really felt the "realness" off the characters and they managed to seem legit at all times with great emotional range and passion for their lines.

But of all the characters the main 3 were the ones that I enjoyed the most. They did such a good job.
When calling each other's name they always sounded and felt so earnest and genuine.
It really helped establish their emotional relationships too, to hear them speak to each other in such a way that conveyed many feelings with few simple words.

I thought the Devil papika was just a part of real papika.

Real Papika wasn't gone, she was just split into a bunch of different personas, each representing a part of herself. She couldn't appear as the real her in front of Cocona both because it was the influence of her own PI bringing aspects of her character to the surface which had been buried from the Mimi incident, and Cocona's impedance being all over the place from being "lost"

I figured that's why each Papika kept appearing and disappearing suddenly, almost at random. She was fighting against Cocona's impedance.

That's interesting. So it's not necessarily about being synchronized or on the same page, not specifically, but just how close they are ?
That would make sense given how they got progressively better at it as they grew closer, and even when they had disagreements they didn't always lose it as long as they still remained close.

I'm on a similar boat.
Yayaka's the first girl of her type that I've liked this much.
Usually I'm into the cuter sort of girls, not so much the tomboys, the bad girls, edgy girls, badasses or the anti heroes. But Yayaka's redemption arc and her positive attitude in the end made me love her that much. All the shit she goes through, and the way she took dealt with all of it made me admire her a lot.

She's one of my favorite anime characters now.

But yeah it's the way deep down she's a sweet girl that wanted to be by her friend's side what really made her special to me, how despite all the things she was capable of doing and saying she actually wanted to be there for Cocona all along and in the end that's what she chose and once she did she stopped doubting herself and could fully commit to her true and more noble intentions.
She never let the weight of the world bring her down, even though she came close to cracking a few times she remained strong and stood up again and again never giving up.

And her cool, smug and edgy attitude also made her very cute, she pulls it off nicely. I loved her in episode 5 trying so hard to act all cool and detached even though she actually must have wanted to be on Cocona's side so badly.

Yayaka's habit of staying out past curfew and penchant for addressing her elders in a very slightly disrespectful tone is the perfect foil that will help bring her out into the world. They can bond over experiences with Salt's Dad and mildly oppose the establishment together by passing a "no loitering" sign at a less-than-brisk walking pace.

Plus Yayaka can show her all those kinda bad words that come out of her filthy mouth.

I agree it's superficial, but the idea isn't as crazy as it sounds. Now that he brought it up I tried thinking about it for a moment and there might be some decent chemistry between them, I don't think they could seriously have anything together, not in the way we're talking anyway.

Mimi always seemed to be more like in control of things despite going with the flow. She gave me the impression of someone who had a good grasp of what was going on and could properly digest the situation, while also taking things at her own pace. That's the way she could tease others but in a light hearted and friendly fashion, she's the sort that could go along with the fun while also throwing you some friendly jabs along the way if you really were asking for it.

Now Yayaka has a hard time opening up and likes to put on a facade a lot, while she also seems to enjoy some light teasing with her friends.
Mimi would actually be able to tell when Yayaka is trying to mess with her and answer right back with her own.
And she would also be able to tell when Yayaka isn't being entirely honest and would either let her do her own thing or lead her to being honest depending on the situation.

Both being relatively mature character can work well for them in that sense.

But that's just my interpretation. Unfortunately we didn't see enough of Mimi to really know that much about her.

I thought they handled that organization well, it always seemed morally ambiguous but antagonistic, powerful, shadowy and interesting.
In the end we did learn enough about them to make sense of whatever was related to them.

If anything an issue is how easily it became irrelevant once Mimi appeared, they weren't important for the show's conclusion, its climax and ultimately they hardly mattered anymore at that point. They set plenty of the events of the show in motion, all 3 main characters had their lives completely put in motion by them.
I think a good move would have been to have them somehow involved alongside Mimi as the final threat to the show, so the conclusion could at least be connected to a sense of satisfaction related to the characters finally dealing with that entity which had controlled and hurt so much of their lives.
But plotwise the focus in the end was mostly Mimi's misguided pain and Cocona's struggle to find her own self determination anymore which also led to her embracing her love for Papika.
Salt got his bit about accepting his pasts mistakes and fixing them, and Yayaka also got her bit about accepting her feelings for Cocona and also accepting her place in Cocona as just a friend. Those were all nicely done parts of the conclusion.
But I think more would have been nicely tied up if Asclepius had been an active relevant factor at least on some level. Like for example if they were still actively responsible for antagonizing Mimi somehow which caused her to keep lashing out against everyone the way she did.
Like maybe they'd try to use her shards to enter her own PI somehow to take her power for themselves while corrupting her even more. So defeating Mimi by saving her would also mean defeating Asclepius But I don't know how that could have been done given the time they had left and without weakening the thematic importance Mimi's actions carried if they were indirectly being caused by external influence.

And Asclepius only needed some sort of weird goal related to their worshiping of Pure Illusion.
So they might as well have connected both of them together somehow, made Asclepius enable Mimi's delusion while retaining an antagonistic role, which in turn would also mean they have to be defeated in order to get the happy ending.

The story would change a bit in the last episodes but most of the show would remain the same and the ending would also be more or less the same.

All of the bad stuff in the show can be traced back to them.
But when Mimi destroyed them, they stopped being a factor. Which means Cocona, Papika and Yayayaka never got to face them, so a viewer would lack the satisfactory experience of seeing the hero defeat the villain.

The villain was already defeated by Mimi. All that was left to do was really saving Mimi more so than defeating her, because she was just another victim of them, she was more like throwing a tantrum in a confused state with part of her being lost than actually a villain in her own right.

That's what sort of lacked for a conclusion to really feel like it was complete to some people, and it's what I've been going off when thinking about it.
