Is Imaishi the only daring and innovative Mahou Shoujo director of the decade?
>>
>>152904781
>any of those
>mahou shoujo
>>
>>152904781
There are no daring or innovative mahou shoujo, period. Imaishi is only daring and innovative as an animator.
>>

>Imaishi is only daring and innovative as an animator.
Whether you like his style or not, he's unique as a director. And those three shows are unlike any other mahou shoujo.
>>
>>152907704
Oh I love his style, and I'm a huge fan of Dead Leaves and Gurren Lagann, I just don't see them as innovative.
>>
>>152907462
What about Utena and Tutu?
>>
>>152908572
I think he's talking about this decade.
And if borderline stuff like in OP doesn't count he has a point, since the only things that come to mind are Madoka and Flop Floppers.
>>
>>152908572
Is Utena really a mahou shoujo? Even so I'm not sure it was "innovative". Definitely not Princess Tutu.
>>
>>152908931
>Is Utena really a mahou shoujo?
It's a deconstruction :^)
But seriously if you don't consider even that innovative you aren't right in the head.
>>
>>152909323
How did it innovate? Highly influential, sure, but more for reviving the baroque Dezakian shoujo aesthetic than for breaking new ground.
>>
>>152909695
Despite the obvious influences it looks pretty distant to Versailles no Bara and such.
And of course narratively it's completely different.
>>
>>152904781
>mahou shoujo
I don't think you know what those words mean.
>>
>>152910106
Little and teenage girls that dress up, usually to fight evil, with flashy transformation sequences?
Fit the criteria.
>>
>>152910034
Okay? I stand by my opinion
>>
>>152910334
So being different from what came before isn't being innovative?
What previous series are like it?
>>
>>152910245
Again, I don't think you know what mahou shoujo actually is.
>>
>>152910545
Neither do you apparently.
>>
Luluco can be considered Mahou Shoujo?
>>
>>152911042
She even becomes older when she transforms like Creamy and others so I think the inspiration was intentional, but it's more of a origins story since she becomes one just at the end.
An eventual Trigger Girls anime would probably be a full fledged mahou shoujo.
