Why can't all anime be like this? There's enough great seinen manga out there that is ripe for adaptation but they all seem to get made into cheap live action movies.
>>
>>152900973
>Why can't all anime be like the ones I like?
Great question, you could find out the answer by enrolling in a third-grade-level economics class, or reading up on a concept known as "opinions".

because no one would watch it
especially something in the vein of texhnolyze would only build its fanbase slowly over the years

That's not a thing bruh

>Why can't all anime be like this?
I fucking love Tex but god please no, that's a terrible idea.
>>
Because Tex is Tex, there's nothing quite like it and there will never be anything like it again.
>>152901283
>anime fans around the world start killing themselves
Seems like a great idea, actually.
>>
>>152901283
>he doesn't want every single anime to be 2deep cyberpunk with low lighting and 20-minute silences
Looks like someone hasn't grown out of fun yet.
>>
>>152901283
I should have added that I don't only mean plotwise, but rather tone, intelligence, smart themes, and a lack of awful exposition. Texhnolyze is only of the few anime that I watched in which it felt like the creators didn't think their audience are morons and didn't feel the need to hold their hands throughout the plot.
>>
so what's the deal? does this anime have an actual story or is it just a mishmash of cyberpunk concepts with a depressing color palette? i couldn't really tell.
>>
>>152901383
The story is pretty obvious by the 4th episode. Although it starts out opaque and difficult to follow.
>>

There seems to be a real absence of grounded, mature stories in anime the last decade.
>>
>>152901466
Yeah, that's my issue. I legitimately cannot stomach 98% of anime because of that. I read a lot of manga though for my fix of mature and grounded stories.
>>
>>152901503
You know that japs are by definition not "weebs", right? You're a fucking idiot.
>>
It would get dull very quickly, it's good because it's rare.
>>
>>152901466
Jin-Roh isn't anything special, honestly. It's got good visuals/atmosphere, but the characterization and red riding hood shit sucked.
>>
>>152901588
Why are you so triggered, my weeb friend?
>>
>>152901526
I can understand wanting more of that stuff, but if you cannot stomach anything that isn't "mature and grounded," (which seems to mean serious and cerebral stuff) then the issue's not really with anime, it's just that your taste is narrow as shit.
>>
>>152901645
Nah I like anything that's good. It's just that most anime is terribly naive, unfunny, and poorly written.
>>
>>152901632
>says something stupid
>haha u mad bro

Epic. So you're basically admitting that you're a newfriend who has no idea what he's talking about. Western audiences aka your weebs don't matter.
>>
>>152901106
Underrated post. The thread should have ended here.
>>
tex: too smart for an actual plot
>>
>>152901466
It's just little red riding hood but the twist is that they're both the wolf yet they're both victims, the mature political themes are just window dressing and there isn't any corruption in the system. Re:Zero's arc 2 does the whole fairy tale deconstruction better honestly contrasting Rem and Ram to show the twins were actually very distinct characters and the drama is far more subtle and emotionally engaging.
>>
>>152901703
Calm down my weeb friend with ADHD, you gonna have a stroke.
>>
>>152901686
> Nah I like anything that's good
What a meaningless statement. I could say the same about myself, but since our opinions on good differ it gets us nowhere. Also, how the fuck can you say "I can't stomach 98% of anime because [real absence of grounded, mature stories]" and then claim that you like anything? It seems like you're just out to shitpost, honestly.
>>
>muh grimdark scifi

Popular culture, anywhere in the world, doesn't give a shit about that anymore. At least the nips don't go full political so there is some entertainment value.
>>
>>152900973
Because anime is for literal children in Japan.

Seinen is for adults which isn't that popular.
>>
>>152900973

>>

What are you talking about? Grimdark scifi is literally mainstream literature and movies right now. Most of them suck but it is popular.
>>
>>152902050
OP is going through that phase.
>>
>>152902050
So what? Every medium has sure thing money makers, but real art is still made. I only see that excuse in the anime community. Like it's okay that anime companies only want money and nothing else.
>>
>>152902001
I miss 2015 too
>>
>>152902155
>I only see that excuse in the anime community
That's because people only make these retarded complaints in the anime community. I have never seen anyone ask "Why can't all movies be intelligent and mature?" because it's common fucking sense that they won't be.
>>
>>152902209
Except 99.9 % of anime is shit.
>>
>>152902209
Are you fucking dumb or do you not watch movies? All of the highest grossing movies are escapism but intelligent and mature stories come out almost every single day. In fact mature and intelligent movies outnumber shit-tier escapism on a yearly basis. They just don't make money.

>Real art is still made
But is like for 1 good work there are like 100 shit works. Why there is a lack of suggestions? Because a really good work is made from time to time. See /tv/. /lit/, /mu/, always the same suggestions every rec thread. Not because they are obscure and from a sikrit clov, but because after lurking a lot, people find the same few really good works. Every ten years, just two or five works can be put in the list of decent works.
>>
>>152900973
>Why can't all anime be like this?
Why would you want it to be? Part of the reason it was so good was that it was a change of pace, if you take away it's originality, which was its main selling point, you'd have a decent plot, with poor scripting and mediocre animation.

You are literally just the other side of the "moe" coin,
>Hey I like cute girls lets have 12 shows about cute girls a season
>Hey I like grimdark shit lets have 12 shows about grimdark shit a season

The problem is that the industry as a whole is creatively bankrupt, switching the flavour of creative bankruptcy wouldn't actually improve anything.
>>
ITT: people from /tv/ who hate anime come to the anime board to remind us that they hate anime
>>
>>152902512
And we are kinda lucky we still are not in the age of grimdark mass production. But maybe in twenty years we are going to get a lot of awful forced over dramatic violent animus pretending to be complex and dense as fuck because it became the new fashion. Like capeshit on /tv/
>>
>>152902389
It probably has to do with what the term anime self entails, it doesn't really refer to any animation, but one only from Japan and generally ones from big studios, which would be foremost interested in money.

It just takes too much input/talent to create something that would be qualified as anime and to get to that point you're probably requiered to get something in return.

It's not the same as someone just typing words on their keyboards and then printing it or taking a camera or maybe getting someone to enact a screenplay, anime just takes a bit more than that.

I suppose I might be totally incorrect, but I'd expect there to be at least a certain pinch of truth in what I just typed.
>>

Tex is the epitome of overblown, pretentious hypstery. It is boring. It isn't 'well-thought' or with a 'good story' or anything like that. Tex is only one thing: boring.

Ridiculously boring.

There is several good episodes in the heap, like the first ones, but it soon degenerates into a ridiculously boring story, with ridiculously boring characters.

I have watched more artsy anime I can count, but none so boring, so pretentious, and so vapid than Tex.

Why do you like it, /a/? Is it your inner hipster? Do you really, seriously lack good taste so much you actually believe this piece of crap is a 'good' anime?

Ergo Proxy is overblown, pretentious, and boring at time, that is a fact we can all agree on. But it is less overblown, pretentious, and boring than Texhnolize. It is actually a better anime for all its numerous flaws: not because it is a good anime by any means, but because Tex is actually worse.

Well, the only difference between those "teams" was Hamasaki directing rather than Ryutaro Nakamura. The latter was directing Kino in the same season as Texh so maybe that's why they couldn't bring him on there.

The foundation of both of those series are really in Yasuyuki Ueda (who I see never really getting the credit he deserves when it comes to talk of all the ABe anime) and of course Konaka.

There were a few throughout but it's hard to say what the level of contribution was from these other three, though Noboru Takagi showing up is cool since he'd handle series composition on the Baccano and DRRR! anime later.

I have no idea about Ueda since he was a producer, but he was one of those (now really rare) producers with very prominent creative influence, and I'm sure he's been credited with the "original concept" of both of those shows before.

>>152906062
I'd honestly never noticed that, pretty weird. Texhnolyze seems to be the odd one out for Konaka since I've never seen/read him speak out about working on it (compare this to Digimon Tamers or Ghost Hound). Texh ultimately seems to be a project much closer to Ueda and Hamasaki than anybody else.

Yeah, I remember reading that as well. I'd say he had just as much bearing on Texhnolyze. Konaka always has something strange and arcane to add to a show, but Ueda's probably the emotional core of both series.

>>152906586
Ghost Hound was mentioned/discussed in the last (good) Texhnolyze thread I can remember, and I finally managed to finish that recently.

Dorky astral projection babbys and the rather disappointing last episode aside, I quite liked it. Nakamura's sound design was absolutely fantastic, and I think Konaka was a bit more playful with his character writing than he usually is. I also love how there's explicit episode titles and references to things like "homunculi" in the brain, and "affordances," I kept thinking that Ghost Hound was as much a new story as it was a kind of testing ground for some of the concepts that he didn't really have enough time to flesh out fully in Texhnolyze.
>>
>>152906827

konaka i really weird, he is like a fucking yakuza boss... from hell and dresses like a killer from a manga and acts on interviews like he acts like he owns the place and is dealing drugs or some shit like that.
