It takes place in between the end of DR2 and when they show up in 3. Hajime is waking everybody who was comatose up after they died in the game. Nagito was just the last one to wake up.

Why didn't the Hajime alter ego kill Nagito immediatly then? If it's supposed to"reflect his ideal" world, why have the real Nagito say "I don't give a shit, I want hope" immediately? You're completely misinterpreting what I'm saying. Its not a question of 'you must like central character x to like x series.' Its 'removing central character x from x series improves it.' in which unless you despise x series plot in its entirety, this is a stupid thing to say.

Giving examples, I hated the villain of SAO who put them all in the MMO, does that mean SAO would have been better if they didn't exist? Fuck no and any SAOfag (I hated SAO overall btw) should agree with this
