Honesty one of the best works I have ever seen. Everything from its plot to the characters and especially the music was just amazing. It's one of the very few things that still has an emotional impact when I rewatch it today. It's a fantastic story. It was as if the creators dared themselves to make something different and they did not betray that from beginning to end. I just rewatched Rebellion a few minutes ago and every time I see the ending I gain more appreciation for the thought put into it. It's not a generic happy ending since everybody including Homura knows it's a terrible thing she's done. And with the cracks showing from her workmanship, she already knows it won't last forever. Despite the fact that she did it all for Madoka(read: Her own)'s happiness, she gets to wallow in her insanity and loneliness like a witch. It's an interesting twist. I suppose if we get another movie, it will be one where she attempts suicide again and the LoC crew will have to come up with a middling solution to save their friend and the universe.

Only one thing. Homu did everything wrong.

I like the show and its designs but I don't see why people praise it so much. It just doesn't really stand out at anything other than being concise and having magical girls suffer.

It was kinda like reading a fairy tale in that it had a neat gimmick and the characters were mostly just symbols. But the gimmick didn't deliver a moral and the narrative was centered around drama. Especially after Rebellion the whole thing just felt pointless.

Although I'd say the production values hold it up and make it worth watching alone. It's definitely no masterpiece and even kinda rough around the edges for an Urobuchi story, but has redeeming qualities.

It is a good story. It was a show that was very helpful for me at the time. I will always have a special place in my heart for all of the characters because of it.

I recently rewatched and only now do I realize how much the movie ruined the continuity of this show. The ending to the TV show is perfect.

It was perhaps overhyped a bit when it aired, but it was still really good. Tsunami delay helped it build unusual hype for its finale too.

I feel it's partially a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy - Japan wanted it to be super significant so people there kept saying it was until it's kind of the normal perception and now there's at least one or two Madoka-ish inspired shows a year now. So you can say that because mahou shoujo is now basically never quite like it was before Madoka and now anything kind of dark or sad is now called a Madoka ripoff, that tells you everyone holds it up as the bar. If it's a new bar, it's got to mean fucking something.

As a fan of the Mahou Shoujo genre, I feel alone when I think Madoka is just decent.

It really did seem like a good ending when I first watched it, but Rebellion does help to point out the problems with it. None of the problems they brought up seem too farfetched; we know the Kyuubeys will try to get as much energy as they can and do not care if Madoka would have to suffer for it, and Homura wants to protect Madoka with every fiber of her being so she would go to any length to do that. It is a sequel that maybe did not seem needed at the time but I really do think that it is a good addition. That and it gave us the cutest girl in the entire show; there is no way that I can dislike Rebellion.

By the time they can come to earth they would already have very fast warp drives and replicators that can create any material.
