In the last scene of the series Ringo and shouta Shouma are like 20 yards away from each other.
That has to mean something.

If they showed up and ran into any character during the series then it would give precedence to the idea that the same thing would happen with the Shouma and Kanba reincarnations.
But that didn't happen, there's nothing to suggest that they would ever meet again, Shouma and Kanba don't even have the same memories. And the only person to be shown to slightly remember them was Himari

Who do you mean by "they"? Younger Shouma and Kanba? How could they have run into anyone when the series ended directly after that scene.

If you mean the boys from episode one, they are not main characters, and they are not reincarnations. So they'd be no real reason for them to show again. Not everything needs precedence.

Also, Himari and Ringo both have ties to their previous lives/memories. Himari has her scare and Ringo has her burn. And they show that burn seconds before younger Shouma shows up.

Episode 9 of Penguindrum might be the best single episode of anime that I've seen.

Am I the only one who found Ringo & Shouma's romance to be completely unconvincing? They never really bonded on a human level, they just spent a lot of time together for plot reasons, much of which time was spent helping Ringo stalk her not-crush.

The foundation of the romance mostly came from Shouma making Ringo realize her own self worth by acknowledging her as nobody but herself, not Momoka. After he saves her life for seemingly no reason but his kindness, Ringo falls for him. Shouma has always been attracted to her, but for the sake of his duty to his family, he pushed her away.
