So for all the lucky bastards who managed to se this last year, what are the odds of Kimi No Na Wa / Your Name of nabbing Oscar gold or at the very least, get nominated.
>nominated
most likely
>win
no chance
Zootopia, Moana and Kubo are all better
>>151721390
Any news on its total gp in japan? Did it beat Miyazaki's films?
no chance of a win. I don't think think kimi no na wa does much that is strictly possible without the realm of animation. It doesn't have the 'magic' so to speak. not that that makes it worse than the other nominees in my opinion, but if it's an award for 'best animated film' I wouldn't be surprised if the academy looks for something more zany
>>151721722
Even with its story and visuals?
Nominated for sure
But DISNEYWINSLOL
The people that vote on the category don't watch animated films so not enough will vote for it without the push from Disney like Spirited Away got.
>>151722019
The story isn't that great.
Not even the most likely anime movie to get a nom
>>151722019
the general tone from the last 15 winners has been that the animated film winner has some aspect of fantasy (weird talking creatures and so on) and kimi no na wa doesn't have any of that beyond body swapping.
>>151722868Also time traveling
>>151721390
It will get torpedoed because of the boob groping scenes. Mark my words.
>>151722868
>winner has some aspect of fantasy
You mean CGI.
>>151721722
It avoids the use of 3DPD actors. That is more than enough to justify animation.
>>151721480
Zootopia and Moana, cause Disney pays the most.
>>151722868
but Big Hero 6 is just capeshit in disney form and it won
>>151721480
>Zootopia, Moana and Kubo are all better
I haven't seen Kubo, but:
Zootopia > Kimi no na Wa > Moana.
>>151721390
Oscars are a fucking joke. They don't even watch the nominated movies.
>>151721480
>Zootopia, Moana and Kubo are all better
KEK
I think a better question you should ask is why would anyone give a fuck
>>151724678
>Moana that low
>>151721390
not a chance, zootopia will beat it because muh disney
The most famous film win each time
zootopia already won, it's a commercial success, a disney movie and an american movie.
It literally can not lose
>>151721390
It's only there on the list because they need a foreign animated movie for """diversity""". I bet most of the panelists haven't even watched it. If it wins (it won't) I'll take off my shirt and eat it.
Highly doubt it, but I wouldn't want it to either. As Shinkai said, it would put too much expectation on him to deliver something amazing next time, when hes really not that good and makes the same story every time. Feel bad for him, in a way, because even he recognizes hes no Miyazaki or Anno.

>Feel bad for him, in a way, because even he recognizes hes no Miyazaki or Anno.
Nobody wants to be a sellout hack like Anno.
>>151721480
>Zootopia, Moana and Kubo are all better
>>151725986
>he's no Anno
That's a good thing after the Rebuilds. I don't care if Shin Gojira was great, that was live action and doesn't count.
>>151721390
It'll get nominated but it won't win.

Really love this meme.

You have to go back, >>>/v/
>>151726302
Same visual motifs, same obsession with space. Hes one-note, the Blomkamp of anime.
>>151726367
You have to suck my dick.
No, because of titties grope and some pantyshots. Can't show this to Amerika
>>151726302
He does but it's a classic love story which is pretty malleable so it can't really ever get old
>>151725865
Normal people dont watch anime, they said is boring
>>151726562
The concepts are somewhat similar, the exploration and message is always different. And that's discounting Garden of Words and Children Chase Voices, which are very different.
>>151726603
If they could show it to Londonistan without repercussions they can show it to America.
>>151726562
Doesn't hurt making movies with a motif you're passionate about, it worked for Damien Chazelle with Whiplash and La La Land.
I don't think it will be nominated, I guess it's not that kind of movies that the academy may enjoy the most. If it gets nominated tho it'll be interesting, but I don't think it will ever win against Zootopia or Moana.
btw totally loved it, I'd seriously like to rewatch it asap. Is there any good rip online or we need to wait for blu-rays?
>>151728471
Nope.
How hard would you guys laugh if the Oscars snub Zootopia and not even nominate it like they did last year with the Lego Movie?
>Caring about Oscar
When you retards will learn?
Also, everybody knows that Japan could make the best film ever and some disney or pixar shit would still win.
>>151730443
I like to think that only newfags and /tv/ crossborders care about this shit, otherwise the little faith I still have in /a/ will die.
>>151721480
Kubo maybe, but not zootopia.
