Not trolling. The sound design in this is legitimately bad. Even when it was there it was pretty tinny, and the music didn't seem to fit any purpose other than making it seem "classy". There's that great scene in End of Eva where Asuka's fighting the angels and the classical music contrasts with the extremely brutal scene, while still complimenting her glorious rage, and its used well there, but that music doesn't suck and it doest eat up all the sound. There were like a million lasers going off during the gay montage that just seemed disconnected with no sfx. The premise of the battle was too vague to care about as well. "Army A controls the fortress and Army B wants if so they attack it" isn't good storytelling. Everyone in the show also seemed even more bored than I was. Reinhard is composed to a goofy extent.

It's because the company making it had the rights to a fuckload of classical music.

The series isn't well known for good direction and editing, it's more for the /his/ crowd where you get to see fictional politics and personalities clash.

And yes, Bolero is a fucking amazing piece.

You shouldn't be watching LOGH for the space battles or "tactics." You watch it for politics and seeing ideologies anthropomorphized into SPACE PRUSSIANS.

Oh, thanks for letting me know. I still don't like it but now at least I understand better why they used it.
There wasn't really any ideological or political content in the movie (unless the hierarchical interaction counts), so maybe ill see if that gets better. Its still lame that the other things are present though if they're not gonna be good.

I don't know about the movie, but the OVA's make it pretty clear and the books make it inescapable to realize that LoGH is all about politics, ideologies and organizations. It is very much its author's soapbox, but the story and characters save it from feeling like a political pamphlet.
