It can be sports, fighting, fantasy, sci fi, mecha, sol, drama even. There have been more than enough iconic and indeed good harem series in the history of the anime medium.

Isekai is just the lazy attempt of Japanese college students to write. And it's the worst shit I've read in my life so far. And believe me as someone who used to frequent fanfiction.net 15 years ago I've read some bad shit. But isekai easily takes the cake.

For the most part most anons agree that the genre is shit, and more importantly the execution is usually terrible, but there are still many anons who will watch every harem to come out next season, and participate in the threads, and enjoy it. I for one have seen almost every harem that exists, and still enjoy them every season, but from an objective point of view I can see clearly that 99% of harem shows suck.

It's like a guilty pleasure.

Harem and Isekai are the worst genres that come to mind. Harems used to be good like Tenchi that had a good storyline and memorable girls but now you have shit that is only made to sell manga and merch and whatever. Isekai is simply Otaku pandering that either features overpowered MC's or faggots like Subaru and the storylines are always mediocre.

Now I am talking about the anime adaptations. If the source material is better, I'll give the series itself the benefit of the doubt but if the anime is bad, that doesn't give me a good feeling that the source material will be any better.
