If you want to break a VN down from a video game standpoint, do game makers try to make games as accessible as possible or do they try to appeal to niche crowds? Anime can be fine as a form of entertainment, obviously, but they are essentially casuals compared to people who enjoy reading the source material whether it be a VN or manga.
