Leaving JJ's placing aside, the scores were just totally fucked in general. Yurio shouldn't have won, he was overscored for his SP and if it was accurate Yuuri would've beat him. Yuuri was also underscored for his SP.

I really don't know what they were trying to do. For the most part, the scoring wasn't all that off. Are they intentionally over/underscoring characters to reflect times it happens in real life? Did they just run out of time to fact check the scores by the end? Did they just say fuck it and not worry about the accuracy as long as the 'feel' of the programs matched the score?

As a skating-fag myself I have to disagree.

There's an overemphasis on quads in modern programming which isn't a new concept, and is actually portrayed pretty realistically in YOI.

YOI example: someone in a thread yesterday was saying JJ shouldn't have scored as high as he did in SP, but the reality is despite not completing his planned jumps, he still landed all his jumps with no falls/touchdowns with all rotations and still landed his quad, which put his programs technical difficulty still on par with Phichit.

Honestly I'm considering doing a potential score breakdown chart because I'm sick of this "hurr the scoring wasn't accurate".

Of all the shit Kubo/Kenji/Sayo spent time on, the scoring is pretty accurate to real life (even if it's inflated because anime).

Yeah, that's a score chart based on what that the author *personally* thought they should get, not the actually tech-point breakdown of what happened which is what I'm talking about.

PCS is a massive subjectivity; basically you need to have faith that Kubo/Kenji decided them appropriately. Of course they manipulated PCS for the story, we never see the full routines (except Yuuri/Yurio) so we can never really know what factors go into that scoring component.

The tech scores are correct to real life, though very, very rarely does anyone make the number of quads at such high difficulty in real life.

I can understand how if you aren't exposed to irl ice skating it seems a little shitty how it all turned out, but even if you watch the most recent GPF, SP to FS standings change dramatically simply based on quad performance in the FS which massively boosts point difference in the technical component.

It baffles me how people think after all the research and choreography they would screw up on something as important as scoring.

Why do Fairyfags keep saying this? Every single competitor worked hard, they wouldn't be pro athletes if they weren't killing themselves training. This isn't like sports anime set in high school with lazy but talented character archetypes, they literally would not be able to compete if they didn't work their asses off. Actually JJ being a choker was subtly hinted at in his previous standings that we know of. He took bronze at the last GPF and didn't even podium at worlds, which should give you pause when you consider that in this skating season he skated two perfect qualifying programs. Why wouldn't there be enough time if they planned to showed it in the first place? They wouldn't have included the track in the official soundtrack if they didn't planned to show it. Not showing it proves that shit was changed.

I don't care if they had to cut a scene to shove Lambier in the last episode. He isn't 'just' a celebrity, he's a pro skater and this show needs all the publicity it can get.

Plus it's not like the cut scene was lost. I'm sure we're going to see it in S2.

The only problem I saw in that episode is the lack of time and staff MAPPA has always been complaining about. If they had had a few days they could have make better transitions between their modified scenes. That's all.

I think it's to keep the parallel between him and Yuuri, to show that even if he fucked up because of a panic attack or whatever there was still hope he could get better and improve. Which is shitty anyway because he didn't deserve to get on the podium and Yuuri learned how to manage his anxiety in a more realistic way than just "oh no I'm a piece of shit but I want to win" since that was the focus of the whole series.

I understand that last episode had its problems, but I knew it was always going to be rushed. It still had nice moments and after thinking about it for a while, I can see Viktor's reasons for returning back to skating (which was originally my biggest problem with the episode.) I'm still not sure if I like it - that will depend on the execution - but I have accepted it.
All in all, it wasn't as good as it could be, but it also wasn't the catastrophe some people make it out to be and my feelings are more positive than negative now.
