Why doesn't /a/ like Children who Chase Lost Voices?
Hard mode: don't mention Ghibli
I don't remember why I got bored.
I just remember that after having it paused for 2 hours, I decided to watch something else instead.
Just like with many other anime movies, it meanders about for too long and not the character nor the story or the writing are compelling enough to keep your interest. It's solely the visual experience, but that is always true with Shinkai.

I actually liked the Ghibli vibes, but compared to pretty much any Ghibli movie it's really watered down.

>paused it for 2 hours
why
how did you think this would benefit the viewing experience
>>151135248
>its solely the visual experience
>he says as he describes a visual medium
If you walked into an anime movie wanting something more than the visuals, you're the problem, not the creators or the medium.

Are you me?
>>151136784
>it's a visual medium so only the visuals matter
>>151136791
No, I am not.

He's probably the same autist who spams those kyoani cinegrids, don't take anything he says seriously.
I liked it but it is very hard to watch and not compare to some other films unless you have never seen other anime films. It can come across as a bit tryhard but without comparing it to others, it's an okay watch, just a bit long.

books are a visual medium too. they usually offer way more than just a visual experience.
>>151137005
Yeah, like when they fall on your foot.
All style no substance Shinkai garbage.
>>151138310
Even the style isn't really good. Very unimaginative. Shinkai is just bad

Don't know about "the whole /a/", but I thought it was a bit restrained on both Ghibli's magical fairy tale, and Shinkai's melodramatic sides. Great illustrative, enviroment and character design talent, but there should've been a comparable plot hook to hold everything together.
The sudden bursts of violence were very jarring and the protagonist didn't really have much of a reason to go on that journey.
