I've never been that keen on anime that are set in the real world but have bizarre, obviously not realistic uniforms.

Set it in a future sci-fi world = do what you like with the uniform
Set it in the real world = conform to reality with your uniforms, please

I'm not so fussed if they go a little outlandish with the colour schemes, though. Maybe that's hypocritical of me. I don't think stylisation of form and stylisation of colour have equal value when it comes to establishing a setting.

Like, Yuru Yuri's uniforms are ridiculous.
Amanchu's uniforms are ridiculous.
I don't mind Hyakko's uniforms. For sure no school would use that halloween colour scheme (I quite like it). It's unrealistic that the school would allow each student to customise their uniform as much as they do. But at least what they do with their uniforms conforms to reality.
