On a serious note this chapter was a fun setup chapter with the mercenaries being chatty with each other. Although it does beg the question why they took such a risky job. Magical girls don't need to eat or rest so there go a lot of potential expenses. I could understand it if they were batoru-sexuals like some of the other girls but they don't seem that way.

Also that sketchbook scene was sad as fuck. Good thing there wasn't anything lewd in that one.

She seemed to be saying that more for Fal's benefit than for Dark Cutie's.

Dark Cutie sniffled. She had heard of the Magical Girl Hunter's fearsome reputation, but she had not expected her to go to such lengths.

With tears streaming down her cheeks, Dark Cutie ran away.

As they watched Dark Cutie flee, Fal asked Snow White, "Are you sure about this? If word gets out..."

I guess my biggest problem with Deluge is that I fail to see what she adds to the story that Ripple doesn't already bring.

They're both in the role of anti-hero protagonists who, unlike SW, Wedin, and many of the other MCs has chosen revenge at all costs even if it means continuing the cycle of violence.

Basically I think either Deluge or Ripple will become pointless unless they can do a better job of differentiating their roles.

I like both of these characters but right now Deluge seems like Ripple with a slightly more traumatic origin story.

They started out as very different characters but now they feel the same.

I never said they have different ideals. I think SW and Ripple have very similar ideals but Ripple is just not an idealist, unlike SW. Ripple had a hard childhood and so it taught her that you have to get your hands dirty to protect the things that matter to you.

But both of them want the same thing. That's why Ripple is drawn to SW and wants to be her friend. But in practice Ripple, like Deluge is willing to commit violence because of her childhood.

The problem is that chemical manipulation of emotions is... not healthy. She hasn't moved on at all and her quest for revenge is going to mess up the entire LoM. Deluge is currently where Ripple was when Fav told her Swim2's weakness, but BBC is basically enabling her (or manipulating her, depending on how you see it).

Deluge is how Ripple could have turned out. Or how SW could have turned out, for that matter.
