I dunno, it seems like the basic tenets apply. The topics of conversation may differ from board to board but the software, and how people tend to use it, is essentially the same across the entire site.

It's just incredibly fucking frustrating to see someone outright admit "I have no interest in interacting with the board at large, only the sub-community that orbits threads about a given topic". It seems incredibly dismissive not to mention completely rude and antisocial. I almost wanted to just consider it an elaborate troll but no, he's legitimately that much of an asshole.

/jp/s generals evolved into stagnant closed communities where new participants didn't feel welcome.
/a/'s generals were always open. Everyone could come into /djt/ and ask the question or whine about Dekinai-chan. Everyone could have show off their new figurine, everyone could post a request or draw waifu in drawfag.
Everyone could have posted a cute boy or BL manga they have recently read in it's time thread without having to deal with raged haters.

And I feel one essential function of 4chan is to help defuse this, since you're forced to see all threads all the time just by browsing the boards.

It'd be interesting to see what'd happen if the catalog went away for a few months, just out of curiosity; to see who uses it as a convenience and who relies on it as a crutch.
