A late night otaku studio and mainstream manga and channel are just a terrible mix to begin with. Literally the only reason this ended up at Shaft was because Aniplex got the adaptation production rights probably when they noticed it was a huge hit yet failed to understand yet again the wide gulf between mainstream popularity and the otaku sphere in which they've been most successful.

This is why despite their runaway success in the late night otaku anime scene this decade all attempts Aniplex have made to court the mainstream have ended in failure. Not really SHAFT's fault per se since it's just contract work. I don't see them being hugely successful with whatever the thing they are work on with TOHO ends up being as they are just not equipped for the mainstream at all, particularly after years of Monogatari and Shinbo directing styles.
