Opposed to the original version of him the current is alright. Originally the author said he wanted to make Bakugo super happy go lucky and Deku's best friend. Although he would still say super rude and mean stuff anyways

Baku is actually a good character. He'd make a great villain but I'm glad they avoided that predictable outcome.

that's the entire point of the character, he's supposed to be a mock of sasuke characters that are just edgy foils to the mc. it works better in bnha because he actually gets teased for his temper in ua which pisses him off even more instead of treated like some sort of prodigy
