To be fair, in 20,000 Leagues, Jules Verne does describe a version of air conditioning that would maintain a steady temperature, as it was assumed the power supply for the sub would be incredibly hot.
Also the air conditioner aboard Verne's Nautilus would scrub the air to keep it clean to breathe because Nemo loved him some cigars.
