>MY REVIEW FOR CHAPTER 849

This one felt pretty short (maybe because it was divided up so much?) but that’s actually a good thing because I’m feeling lazy tired.

The Vinsmoke family:

Alright, the chapter opened with Judge and his three sons. There are two things on this page to keep in mind. 1) They don’t know where Reiju is. 2) If Sanji and Pudding were to get married, Judge would make them live in Germa in order to take Pudding “hostage.” If you were still worried about the marriage, this should be the nail in the coffin that it isn’t going to happen. There’s no way in hell that Sanji would go back to living there. And even if he had no choice in the matter, Big Mom is under the impression that she’ll have Sanji for a cook after he marries Pudding. Yeah… No marriage.

I know the “nasu” thing is supposed to be a pun (because the guy ends all of his sentences with “nasu”), but it just doesn’t translate well. It’s more distracting here than anything. I’m curious how the official translation will put it. *ahem* Anyways, Sanji is coming across as kind of a heartless dick here. I don’t know what he’s thinking about when the guy is reporting about his nakama, but Sanji cuts him off when he tries to go into details about Brook and Pedro. Also, Sanji says about a lunch meeting. Does that mean it’s the day of the wedding now? Or are we still the day before the wedding? Because the Vinsmoke family was going to an engagement luncheon with Big Mom back in 845. So I’m confused. All of that aside, Pudding appears to be missing as well.

What happened to Reiju? I have three theories: 1) She tried to help Luffy and Nami escape the book prison. 2) One of Big Mom’s people attacked her with the same “hostage” thought in mind as what Judge was discussing earlier. 3) Pudding attacked her for some reason of shaking things up as part of her plan she told Luffy and Nami. If that’s the case, that doesn’t necessarily mean Pudding is “evil” as my dear anon tried to suggest earlier. Sanji told Pudding that he was beaten up by his family. For all Pudding knows, Reiju could have done that as well. Here’s the thing though… Pudding comes across as a bit of a marshmallow. Remember 828?

Reiju comes across as very strong. She would have to be in order to lead part of Germa. So the only way Pudding could have injured her is if Reiju wasn’t expecting it. Reiju does look shocked though.
or maybe pudding just has some weird power with her 3rd eye.

So, I don’t know. Again, it was a short chapter, but it left a lot of questions.

That's fair. I can't REALLY judge something I haven't seen myself. But from the way everyone talks about them, they just sound like niggers screaming about vapid shit and making funny faces.

So I feel like I can watch someone like Preston Jacobs detail his tinfoil hat theories and enjoy myself, and I feel like I can listen to Rob Ager break down filming techniques and theories and enjoy myself, but I really question whether any of these guys are like that for animu/mangos, given the choice moments people here tend to quote.

Oda writes his stories backwards. He needed Sanji to want to be there, otherwise it'd be too easy for him to just leave. A lot of writers do this and cause characters to look a lot stupider than the audience has come to expect them to be.

If writing straight forward, Oda would've come up with story elements to put Sanji in a pickle, and then ask, "What would he do in this situation?" But he instead went the other way. For the story to go the way he wants, Sanji has to stay, so he wrote in story elements that he thought might be enough to convince him. When writing with that kind of bias, you do the character an injustice, but hopefully construe a better payoff for the arc, leaving people to believe "it was all planned from the beginning." And it was, if you ignore the leaps in character logic.
