I heard Sena and Akari are dating!

I'm going through old notes and in march 2014 I wrote I had a dream about a PRxPP crossover:
It was about Laala being a little girl with an evil smile who wanted to destroy the world. And some PR characters were sitting in a shop around a table talking about what happened the previous year, I think I was with them as well. I don't remember who was there but I know Naru was there. We also chatted about romance and how Naru used to like Kouji.
But then we got interrupted by Hijiri calling us on our phones saying hurry we need to get ready to fight Laala.
I could see the scene from his POV too, and after hanging up with us, he called June, which looked like Rinne but with the drill hair, she was in some sort of school, telling her to be careful because Laala might attack the school
.
That girl was spinning and dancing in the corridor in the school, skipping class. Suddenly she's grabbed by a teacher lady scolding her, and my mind tells me that lady is supposed to be Laala's mom, except she didn't look like her at all. She looked like Kyouko's mom but with blond hair. Also unlike laala seems she wasn't evil.
Also apparently the Rinne drills girl, which may have been me, had PR superpowers and she unknowingly activates them when spinning in the corridor, and the school wasn't supposed to know and so the blond lady teacher which is supposed to be Laala's mom notices her power. But then a classmate guy comes over and save her and we ran together.

Then the scene switched to Naru and others PR characters fighting Laala while flying in the sky. Laala was looking like some spoiled brat and she was shooting down planes for fun, and Naru called rain to stop the fires that started in some planes, but couldn't keep some from crashing, but then Rinne appeared and saved the planes by holding them with rainbows.
Then I woke up.

I'm behind on more than fifty of the shows I'm watching due to life circumstances. Girlish Number is one of them, along with Flip Flappers and Yuri on Ice, which I really have been impressed by and am anxious to catch up on.

The year overall hasn't been an amazing one. Last season in particular was dreadful: the best show that debuted last season was Onara Gorou (not that it was bad, just not AOTS contender material in the average season) and it was the first season since PriPara started airing where it was AOTS. Mahou Shoujo? Naria Girls Nama de Anime wo Tsukuru Sama was pretty good, too, though no one watched it and it wasn't subbed by anyone. Raws weren't even on Nyaa. Mahou Shoujo? Naria Girls was fucking dreadful by itself (which is how it was released to the West), and it was only even decent when you watched Nama de Anime wo Tsukuru Sama first like you were supposed to.

The best shows from the rest of the year were Flying Witch, Sakamoto Desu ga? Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, Sekkou Boys, Komugi-chan and Mahou Tsukai Precure.

I started watching Pretty Rhythm DMF and I need reasons to keep going

I've watched very few episodes, but so far it looks really boring.
Nothing sticks with me
The characters seem bland and 1 dimensional, not that AD had these fantastically-written characters, but with DMF they all seem to have 1 single character trait, or "gimmick".
Maybe it's because they're trying to introduce so many main characters at once, I don't know,
But then again, AD had to introduce the world while introducing the characters and I felt much more engaged.
Also DMF feels really low budget compared to AD.

I don't want to over analyze and criticize little girl cartoons, I feel like a cranky old man.
I just want to feel invested like I did with AD, but DMF is making it difficult. I don't want to force myself through 50 episodes hoping for the moment I start feeling engaged.

So, what should I do /ai/?
Does it get better?
Should I keep watching?
Am I just whinny butthead?

Yeah, the characters are clunky at first because there's a lot of them and none of them has the time to get good enough focus. I'd say it gets a lot better at the halfway mark once they create mixed units and the plot really starts getting underway, then the final cour is utter craziness and the climax is the best of any /ai/ show I've seen.

Still, don't expect the new girls to ever get as much development as the AD characters aside from Mia and Hye In.

I feel that DMF is the weakest link in the PR franchise.
If you don't like the first couple episodes, odds are you won't enjoy the first 30 or so very much, the plot kicks off somewhere after that.
And it is low budget, they also switched character designers from Watanabe Akio to someone else and the art really starts looking wonky later.
The staff was also told to aim for a younger demographic and production began during the last arc of AD so resources and staff were split.
I feel like DMF is really hit or miss even with a pretty good back end to the season, because if you're not at least somewhat invested in the new cast by the time the plot kicks in, everything that happens in the last 10-20 episodes might not sit well with you.

Back when it started I watched the 1st nama motion capture thing of Naria Girls and decided to watch the show, but just like you I am behind on many shows and don't watch much anime these days(Only anime I watch this season is Tawawa On Monday) so I still haven't did it. DMF has the slowest start out of all three seasons. I watched it when it was airing and even after seeing AD and how masterpiece show of the decade level it was, I still found some early parts of DMF boring. It's mostly because you go straight from the high level of AD's last episodes to the low quality DMF start. There's also because they introduce the korean girls, but don't develop them at first and focus on the prizmmy girls instead which make all the new characters look bland. There's a few interesting scenes here and there, especially when the AD characters appear, but overall it isn't super great. But starting episode 11 the Korean girls get real personalities. Just keep going it gets even better than AD. You've seen how AD was, you can't stop now. I think DMF is the best season out of the 3. It'll be one of the worst mistakes of your life if you stop now. Well maybe not.
DMF does has less budget and abuses SD faces at the start, but like AD, later episodes have more animation, like AD45.

There's nothing wrong about this and Pretty Rhythm is worth it.

At one point you'll actually have a hard time stopping. I don't recommend marathoning though. Savoring the show at 3 or 4 episodes max a day is the best. I'm still butthurt that one time a guy watched DMF told me he marathoned it all and couldn't remember the character's names. The korean girls have actual development too. It's just diluted over the show so you might not notice it. Hye In is the main korean girl and the one who gets the most screentime, but So Min almost gets as much development as Hye In. Chae Kyung too and her family is actually important. Jae Eun gets some really good side stories episodes like the restaurant couple. Shi Yoon gets the least screentime but is my favorite and has some really good moments.

This was a really good episode. I've loved Yume from the start, but recently I'm really falling for her. There was also a really nice scene with Rola. This is of course a companion episode with the next one, and so we'll have to wait a week to see how it fully pays off for Yume, but she showed a lot of progression this week, and I think it's probably her best development episode since 10.
