I talk to my little cousins every now and then and based on what they have told me, most of the anime fandom seem to have died down quite a lot since the 90s - 00s among younger people, most of the older people only know dragon ball and sometimes whatever was popular during the 90s(captain tsubasa and such), and college students are the ones that somewhat care about naruto and one piece.

It's not really mainstream, but I often see most people who likes anime are normies and often rejects it's subculture.

Whilst people who watches seasonly anime (that is not bleach, one piece or naruto), those who attended to exclusive concerts are still a very small group of people. But for anime convention, both groups do care about attending them.

And ironically, most of the religious muslims here usually likes lewd shows or watches stuff that is non-shounen shit. I don't know why. They say those kind of anime are nice, like TLR or whatever.
