Only after having watched 8, in my eyes. 7 makes a leap it maybe shouldn’t have made, it goes right into the theme of change presented at the end of 6 without ever questioning what art is to Iroha, or to anyone really. The show went straight from Cocona’s kneejerk reaction towards Iroha’s changed relationship with art to change itself.
8 isn’t about Iroha, but it’s still about art through Hidaka, and in doing so shows how much Cocona cares. About preserving art, about preserving everything. It’s the first time in the entire series she was ever confident and proactive through her own volition, that’s a huge event.

This is context the show desperately needs going forward for the conflict with Papika. Cocona questioning what Papika means to her makes sense as a reaction to seeing someone else change, so chronologically this episode order is probably better, but 8 is a throwback to 6 and explains why 7 happened in the first place. It’s the missing link between change and oh shit change is bad, something that was entirely expressed through (getting rid of) art. It’s the foundation 7’s drama builds upon, whereas 7 is the foundation for the Mimi conflict from 9 onward.

Oh well. Humor is too subjective. I found the part where Reigen casually stepped into the enemy base and everyone thought he was the boss to be hilarious.

As for direction, the show just seemed to know what it was doing at all times and set up the mood properly during the lighthearted scenarios and the really serious ones. Also this is coming from someone who hasn't ever read the webcomic.
