We already saw Trunks treating the main timeline like they were his real friends and family. The timeline they are migrating to is way closer to him than that. It doesn't get much more real than "2 weeks ago".

Except that if they sets the time machine to "their" time, like he's always done when going home, he finds a white void where his friends, family and planet used to be. Much like going to the past that we usually see, the time he is currently in is only reachable by leaving "his" world.

On a side note - if he IS comfortable with what's going on, then why would he ever try to save anyone? He would have just gone to a different timeline when the Androids appeared, or Buu, or Zamasu. Each "time" is changed from what he knew, so he could always find a peaceful universe with copies of his friends and family. He either has to be a strong, caring individual who is loyal to his family of friends, or a guy who doesn't give a shit as long as things are similar. You can't sell yourself as the savior of humanity AND not give a shit as long as things are reasonably close.
