Can I learn enough japanese to read manga and LNs in 6 months, if I study 2-3 hours a day?

You could learn enough Japanese by tomorrow, just depends how long you want to spend looking up stuff.

I think there was one done for the basic book, but you'd have to look in the archives because it isn't in the CoR.
In lieu of that if you're desperate you could copy/paste a text dump from the grammar reference site and use a text analyser to see which kanji and stuff are used.
This grammar reference: http://djt.neocities.org/bunpou/bunpou.html

Do you never write, talk to yourself, attempt to read entire sentences even if you don't understand some characters and force your brain to assume which words might be there? In a month I feel happy I have actually accomplished so much, just by doing that.

On a weaker note, I somehow am having way more trouble memorizing Katakana than Hiragana. I can probably write the characters individually but I often forget them while reading, makes no sense.

Kind of a vague question but is anyone else troubled by the overwhelming urge to go back and reread something while they are in the middle of reading something else? Lately I've been trying to read more manga but even if I'm enjoying the series, there is this compulsion in the back of my mind to go back and sink into one of my favourite two or three series to read.
Reading Japanese in and of itself is like a form of escapism but even still within that there is a deeper urge to retreat back into the manga I loved in English but wanted to read in Japanese; returning to the womb in a way. It's like the longer those other favourites are left without diving back into, it gets worse and worse, almost like a feeling of not being able to take the edge off without. Like a drug?

Guess the question is, how the fuck do you deal with being an emotional manchild while trying to balance out new comprehensive input? Surely there are other anons here who have gone through a similar position. How did you progress through your comfort slump?

>>
>>150015098
I mean from an etymological perspective.
My first thought looking at 未開 is they are referring to their own opening to the West and using that episode as their highest landmark into development.
Meanwhile there are dozens of open countries which are still primitive or underdeveloped.

The word it is used in. Learn through vocabulary.
If you want to do individual kanji study, do it without readings, just general meanings/abstractions.

I'm currently using 2k/6k core deck and KD deck, am I on the right track?
>>
>>150015431
Doesn't matter. Personally I just learned one word for every kanji I learned. Much better and easier than remembering its sound alone.
>>
>>150015606
No. Drop KD entirely. Do core until you have about 1k words and switch to a mining deck. Then start reading. A lot.
>>
>>150015646
I see, I've felt KD wasn't really helping me much compared to core. Thanks.
>>
>>150015606
>KD
I am against fart jokes, so I would go with RTK either way.
But I also don't like using mnemonics, so I go with Core alone.

I have been studying for 11 months doing only Core and it's been pretty productive, I already know 7000 words and can remember a good chunk of it when I need them.
My friend has been studying for 6 months with only RTK and he knows close do 0 words.

He has an advantage, though - he doesn't mistake similar kanjis like I do all the time.
It took me some real effort to separate stuff like 結婚緑読続紙経軽始 and I still get them wrong every now and then.

Besides, while I have learned 1600 kanji in 11 months, he has learned all Jouyou kanji (~2100) in 6.

So yeah, different approaches, different results. None of us can write this shit from memory, though, even though we write everything that shows up while reviewing.

うまそうに is an adverb here
トロつかせる is the verb
やがって is added to the verb to express emotion

You should be able to figure out the rest on your own
>>
>>150016392
Yeah, I have it installed here since forever, but I never use it, and I've been learning quite a bit on my own.
Meanwhile, I have a friend who is able to read anything in Japanese because of years using Rikai, though he has close-to-none kanji recognition and can only read material that he can copypaste for Rikai to do its trick.

After trying to chat with him and getting all-hiragana responses, I gave up talking to him and became very wary of the side-effects of such aids.
>>
>>150015646
>Do core until you have about 1k words and switch to a mining deck. Then start reading. A lot.
Or, use your brain a little and keep using the Core deck alongside reading, because you'll be "mining" the vast majority of the next few thousand words out of the majority of the unknown words you come across because they are so fucking common.
Stop with this generic 'muh read moar' advice. It's lazy and all you are doing is blindly parroting what others have blindly parroted before, without even bothering to thing twice about it, just to make yourself feel good upon the soapbox.
No one needs you shitty generic advice; that's what the Guide is for.

A bit late but I think you should read whatever makes you happy, and like other anon said, you function better doing so. It seems there's some sort of always ongoing competitive spirit around DJT about "making it", and so it seems people end up being more worried about efficiently going on the path to "mastering Japanese" rather than thinking about their own desires first. Of course sometimes the two match, and in that case it's perfect.

Just try to push yourself to read new things regularly though.

You have to be aware of the different cases for the readings
For the onyomi you want to have an idea of what characters mean roughly so when you see them in a compound you have a starting point, like what >>150015549 said . E.G 地下 is Ground+Below/under. On yomi readings are often quite literal so knowing the component parts is very useful.

There are exceptions to the rule of course

Pretty much every problem with misusing tools etc is "your main goal is no longer learning Japanese"

People misuse texthookers because they stop caring about learning Japanese and only care about understanding things. People get obsessed with RTK or anki because they start caring more about kanji or stats than Japanese.

As long as your main goal is actually improving your Japanese, it's hard to go too wrong.

I'd suggest delaying it until after you've read a while and have a decent vocab. I read through it after finishing Yotsuba and 1.5 VNs, and by that point, almost everything in the first two volumes was easy and not necessary to review. I made custom sentence cards for the remaining sentences that I failed to understand before checking the answer. It definitely helped my grammar a lot, although of course it isn't necessary and you can get the same result by reading, but if you're impatient to improve your grammar it's nice.

Memorizing kana is so easy that in the time you have spent figuring out the best way to do it and looking through all these gay apps you could have simply grabbed a piece of paper and copied the kana charts. Start with hiragana, write each one 50 times, then test yourself with one of the billions of kana test sites.

It should only take you a matter of hours to fully memorize them forever. JUST FUCKING DO IT

Free education is literally god-tier when it comes to going to Japan

A Japanese student visa guarantees you 5 years+3 months in Japan. You literally have 1 year 3 months after you graduate to find a job or get married.

Here's the kicker - If you win the grant you also get free rent. Yes, the grant includes rent money. You'll be living for free. In Japan. For 5 years. And nobody will kick you out as long as you continue to get good grades

As others said don't do that at first, wait until you can read and enjoy intermediate things without too much problem.

I tried to do it when I was still beginner or so and it didn't do any good to me, especially since past the Beginner book (1st book out of the three) examples get harder and if you can't read shit you'll just rely on furigana or whatever that is which is just a waste of time.

Grammar-wise you just need Tae Kim at first.

It's very good for beginners and people that can't access interesting intermediate japanese reading material. I don't remember whether it has translations. If so, it can function as a reader's alternative to grammar dictionaries.

I mean, yeah, it's a reference book, not a grammar guide. Just use it like DoJG.

Yeah I know but even then, I'm not even sure I'd end up using it even as a reference book when I can already either rikai (the KC addon for rikai has decent explanations sometimes), use DoJG or simply google stuff over google.jp which will 99% of the time answer my question.

I just don't have much space on my HDD and 200mb is a lot to me.

/a/ help

I just revealed my power level

I was practicing my japanese in my notebook before going to the doctors. Went to the doctors and apparantly while i was gone a different doctor called and my brother picked up the phone

I came home and he wrote the doctor's info on my notebook -- right underneath my hiragana practice sheets

awkward

Root folder link if you want it:
https://mega.nz/#F!5dgA1RwT!PGC6EjdDK2chjnpC8z7WYQ
Wasn't intending to use this mega account for anything but a once off upload but that didn't really work out as intended.

Couldn't find a decent enough version of 第9巻 (a few 10mb rips floating around) so I bought them from Rakuten and ripped it myself.
After starting up Kobo I discovered that at some time volume 7 was purchased so I ripped it to see what the quality is like. Pic related is a comparison between the rakuten rip (on the left) and the '7b' 別スキャン floating around (on the right). Based on the files indicating it is Book Walker digital release, it appears to more or less use the same source only with some upscaling and artefacts from that upscaling. So I threw up the volume 7 I ripped as an alternative if anyone wants to compare that with the other scans on nyaa to see what they prefer.
That version of volume 9 is really the only rip not floating around the net at the moment so the others are there merely for convienence if you happened to download the first 6 from the CoR and for whatever reason don't want to or can't use torrents, or slow DDL sites. The file names have been changed to match the naming convention used for the other manga in the CoR.

Is related to Kenyan royalty and learned Japanese before starting up it website. Basically everything was fraudulent but on the plus side it still motivated a lot of people over the years to get into Japanese without every buying into his scam products.
Someone made a thread or some posts on RevTK/koohii some time ago how he was part of one of khatz's learning programs where you pay thousands of dollars up front or some shit and can only get your money back after the 24 month or 12 month or whatever program ended, and the guy was unable to get any of his money refunded.
Would have been funny as fuck if he was Nigerian instead of Kenyan, what with that whole Nigerian scam industry.

Worth mentioning: at the moment Rakuten has a 450円 off coupon offer for new members:
http://books.rakuten.co.jp/event/e-book/camp-debut-couponget/?scid=wi_kbo_search_content_new

If anyone wants something they can't find scans of, it may be a good time to take advantage of this. If anyone wants a basic template for some mock up details to use for account creation, I can post them and a basic overview of how to rip the ebooks.
Offer ends 2016年12月2日(金)9:59 and is limited to 20k "people". With a bit of patience you could potentially grab yourself six or five volumes of something for the price of a single one normally. They may do another coupon offer drive like this again around New Years.

Is there a reason why would anyone actually want to live and work in japan?
>>
>>150044244

No
>>
>>150043953
I see, probably best to just do it every day then to avoid a bad habit and eventual colossal buildup.
>>
Well, with that my hiragana learning is complete. Thanks guys for watching the stream.

I need to fortify my hiragana learning from here on, and start katakana. Is Memrise a good next step for me? Time to check the guide I think.

too bad katakana war isn't out yet.
>>
>>150044400
>Is Memrise a good next step for me?
it's basically anki but with less customization and you need an internet connection
i would advise starting to read tae kim's guide now because it'll also help solidify your hiragana learning
>>
>>150044244
as someone aiming to live and work in japan, i couldn't really tell you a good reason for it

other than getting a nip girlfriend, living in japan is worse and harder. but i'm doing it anyway. i literally couldn't tell you the reason. it's more than being a weeb though.

perhaps its because i want to experience its god-tier society/culture first hand? sad that I have to go into the hardest workforce on the globe to experience the best society in the world, but perhaps the two go in hand in hand.
>>
>>150044480
last time i checked tae kim's guide it required a printer

a printer is something i do not have.

If you know you're gonna skip a day you can do the "review ahead" thing and it will only give you some missed cards the next day. It's not good to use the function too often though.
